Tony Horton 22 Minute Hard Corps Disc 1 - Thoughts
Disc 1 of the 22 Minute Hard Corps system contain the cardio and core workouts. The Main Menu of the DVD gives you the following options:
Program Intro
Cold Start
Cardio 1
Cardio 2
Cardio 3
Core 1
Core 2
Once you select a workout, you are then given music audio options which are:
Normal
Off
Music and cues
Cues Only
After you select your audio option, Tony Gives a brief introduction to the workout telling you what equipment you need and he gives you a daily directive. The daily directive is your goal for the workout.
There is not a warm up for any of the workouts. Tony will tell you if you need a warm up to do the Cold Start. Cold Start clocks in at just under 10 and 1/2 minutes. In Cold Start, Tony and cast take you through several rounds of running in place followed by some type of dynamic stretching.
All the cardio workouts follow essentially the same pattern. There are seven exercises that you do for three rounds. The first round, Tony has one of the cast member demonstrate the exercise before having the other cast member and us at home join in. So you get a bit of an extra break during round one because of this. In Cardio 1 and Cardio 2, Tony gives you a 22 second break between the rounds. The breaks were much less in Cardio 3. Also, in Cardo 1, you get two bonus exercises.
The reps for each of the exercises vary. Most of the exercise are multi-joint, compound, and functional in nature. There is a lot of going down to the ground and getting up. Some type of the burpee move appears in all three workouts.
The music comes in as the exercise starts and goes out when the exercise is over. There are a variety of sets (hanger, camp ground, deck of ship) used.
Tony is not really doing any of the workouts. He is mostly here as a coach and motivator or as he puts as a "drill sergeant".
Core 1 and Core 2 contain the exact same exercises. In Core 1, you are doing 11 reps and in Core 2, 22 reps.
The reason that I bought this system was the fact that the workouts were 22 minutes. Then I previewed the workouts and I didn't have a very favorable impression at all - all the counting turned me off. However, once I did the workouts, I thought they were okay and overall I think the system pretty decent.
