Amy Bento Ross Steplectic - Review

Image
Amy Bento Ross's Steplectic is an athletic step DVD that contains two workouts.  Workout one, Amy labels as intermediate and workout two, she labels as advanced. The DVD menu is as follows Intro Play All Chapters Premixes       Mash Up Mix 1 (80 min)       Mash Up Mix 2 (71 min) Credits Workout 1 is around 51 minutes in length and features a warm up, 4 combos and a cool down.  The warm up is around 8 minutes and the cool down is around 3 minutes. In the main part of the workout, Amy teaches Combo 1 and 2. She then combines combos 1 and 2.  She teaches combos 3 and 4 and then she combines 3 & 4 before moving into the cool down. These are athletic step workouts. Amy cuing technique is that she throws it out there. So you get large chunks of choreography at once. Then she repeats it several times (at least three) before moving on. The routine was not hard to pick up.  The first time through I was fo...

March 2017 Monthly Rotation

Image
March 2017 Monthly Rotation I will be doing a combination of The FIRM and Michelle Dozois with a little bit of Amy Bento Ross thrown in. I may try to stick in some more Jessica Smith workouts as well as I have a few new ones that I have yet to do. The FIRM workouts are the Pink FIRMs, Zip Trainer workouts and FIRM Express Workouts. Oh I am also planning to do a couple of Essentric workouts on Saturday as Active Recovery. For Michelle, I will be doing her Pure Strength and Pure Cardio workouts.

June 2014 I am working out with some of my favorite girls this month; Amy Bento Ross, Kelly Coffee Meyer and Tracie Long. And for flexibility - I have been trying to add more stretch or yoga workouts this year - I am doing Discount Workouts Extra Stretch Series. I do have some 10 Minute Solution Add-ons planned as well.

Amy Bento Ross Advanced Step Challenge 5 - Thougths

Image
Advanced Step Challenge 5 is Amy Bento's latest step workout in the ASC series.  This workout features five combinations plus a warm up and cool down.  The workout clocks in at just over 60 minutes. This is athletic style stepping and the workout contains quite a bit of jumping and other high impact moves. Like most of Amy's ASC workouts this does feature a preview section that breaks down the five combos. When learning the workout, I learned a combo at a time. I would start by viewing the preview for a particular combo and then I would go and run through that combo several times.  I learned a combo a day before doing the whole workout. The preview section is not chaptered which was a pain once you got beyond the first combo because you had to scroll/fast forward through to get to the combo you wanted to learn. I found the combos fairly easy to learn.  There were two areas where I had a little trouble and any time Amy was jumping completely over the ste...

Amy Bento Ross Body Box - Thoughts

Image
Amy Bento’s Body Box is a kickbox inspired interval workouts.  Along with a warm up and cool down, there are 4 kickbox combinations and 4 intervals.  The intervals consist of resistance type exercises. Some of the interval exercises used dumbbells for resistance and others use your own body weight for resistance. After the end of each interval, Amy add a recovery move that you do for about 8 reps. The intervals and recovery exercises are: Interval 1 :  horse jump into squat overhead press with dumbbells Recovery 1 :  parry block into cross punch Interval 2 :  air lunge into standing seated windshield holding dumbbells Recovery 2 :  alternating side block Interval 3 :  bridge crawls into push ups, leaning bridges from the kneeling position Recovery 3 :  Bow outs Interval 4 :  alternating low squats jump into push up, bridge punches Recovery 4 :  high cross alternating lunge back The intervals/recovery are around 5 to 6 minute each. Th...

Amy Bento Ross Drop Set Strength -Thoughts

Image
Amy Bento's Drop Set Strength - well the workout is not 60 minutes long which is the approximate time listed on the back of the DVD cover. If you do the whole workout, we are talking about an almost 90 minute workout. The workout is chaptered and contains the following sections: warm up Legs Chest Back Shoulders Biceps Triceps Core Stretch. Drop sets - with the exception of the legs and core sections, you are performing one cycle for 3 sets of each exercise. The reps for set 1 is 8, set 2 is 10 and set 3 is 12. As you go up in the number of reps, you are suppose to decrease the amount of weight you are using. For some of the Leg exercises you perform two cycles (two times through) for 3 sets of each exercise or you are performing one cycle on the left leg and one cycle on the right. The core exercises are not performed in the Drop Set manner. Here you are doing 4 sets of each exercise. As you progress through the drop sets, Amy tweaks many of the exercises as you move along....

Amy Bento Ross HIp Hop Walk -Thoughts

Image
Hip Hop Walk is about 55 minutes in length. It is lead by Amy Bento Ross and Amy is the only cast member. The workout contains the following sections : Warm up - ~ 6 minutes Chapter 1 - ~ 12 minutes Chapter 2 - ~ 4 minutes Chapter 3 - ~ 2 minutes Chapter 4 - ~ 6 minutes Chapter 5 - ~17 minutes Cool Down - ~ 3 minutes Stretch - ~ 5 minutes Easy easy easy workout to follow. You really are just walking for most of the workout. Amy does try to change it up by adding in variations to particular moves. There are some extremely repetitive parts to the workout. I think this is mostly because Amy does several sets of the same moves in which she leads from the right side. Even before the right side is completed, I am already getting bored with what she is doing and ready to move on. She then goes and repeats the same moves for an equal amount of sets on the left side. I was getting bored. Amy does included intensity segments. The intensity segments are drill base and it is where she does a...

Cardio Karate Cardio Complexes - Thoughts

Image
Cardio Complexes features Amy Bento Ross as the lead and it is about 57 minutes long. The workout really is very basic. It is divided up into what Amy calls complexes (a mini routine or set of moves). Intensity is added as you repeat the complex. Amy does three iterations of each complex. First time through, no weights. Second time through, add light weights. I added my 1lb sand weights. Third time through, increase the weight. I grabbed 2lb dumbbells as I only have 1lb sand weights. Amy and cast used sand weights for the whole workout. They had 1 lb, 2lbs, and 3 lb sand weights. As you go up in weight, Amy slows down the pace of the move, allowing for proper execution. Not including core work, there was only one time that you went down to the floor for a plank move. And that was in complex 4. This workout had a somewhat different flair to it when comparing it to some of the other Cardio Karate workouts. It was a nice change up. 3 3/4 stars

Cardio Karate Cardio Intense - Review

Image
Cardio Intense is a long workout. It clocks in at 1 hour and 17 minutes. The last 15 or so minutes are ab work and the stretch cool down. This workout features Amy Bento Ross as the lead. There are two background exercisers, Jill and Uchenna. I will say that most of the time I really enjoy Amy but in these workouts, she has been annoying the heck out of me. She stops in the middle of an exercise to give "tips" that seem very haphazard. She is constantly talking, I think yelling, at Jill and Uchenna. At one point in the workout, I was like "Amy, please leave Uchenna and Jill alone. They know the workout. You are the one that needs to focus on the workout". In the first Pod, while going through the combos on the right side, she left out a whole set of moves. That completely through me off because I was expecting to go into that. She did remember when she went to the other side. During the core section, Amy was trying to demonstrate a move using Uchenna, that...

Cardio Karate Week 1 - Thoughts

Image
Cardio Karate Week 1 featured only one workout. Disc 1, Cardio Circuits is led by Amy Bento Ross. The workout is approximately 63 minutes in length. Along with Amy, there are two background exercisers, Jill and Uchenna. Modifications are not shown. All the ladies do the same moves. The moves are simple and basic enough so modifications really are not needed. The workout roughly breaks down as follows : Warm up Combinations Core/Abs Cool Down While the workout does not contain a chapter menu, you can skip through the workout using your remote chapter button. The main part of the workout, the combinations contain 4 pods (mini combinations). Each pod consist of 4 moves. Amy teaches each pod using the layer approach. You learn one side by adding moves, you do all moves back to back before moving to the other side to repeat the sequence. When you have learn both sides, you do the whole pod (both sides) before moving on the the next combination. After you have learned all four pods...
