10 Minute Solution Kettlebell Ultimate Fat Burner - Thoughts

Image
10 Minute Solution Kettlebell Ultimate Fat Burner is lead by Michelle Olsen.  Despite the title and DVD cover this workout does not use a kettlebell. Although, Michelle does reference the use of the kettlebell though out the workout. She uses a dumbbell for all the moves. The five 10-minute workouts are: Maximum Fat Burner Upper Body Power Sculpt Thigh & Buns Blaster Total Body Sculpt Accelerated AB Toner I used the create a workout function of the DVD and made a 30 minute workout I did one day, and a 20 minute workout I did another day. In Maximum Fat Burner , Michelle intersperses cardio break with dynamic kettlebell style exercises.  Some of the combos in this segment included, single arm swing sequence, double arm swing sequence, bicep curl with kettlebell squat, and double arm swing + squat + Over Head Press. Upper Body Sculpt contain the following exercises:  weighted halo, weighted twist, one arm swing into high pull, clean press sequence, and...

Kelly Coffey Meyer - Strength & Stamina

Image
Strength and Stamina is a workout that features groups of exercises consisting of three sets of two alternating exercises and one set of kettlebell work.  The alternating exercises is a mix of body weight, cardio, weight work and functional exercises. The kettlebell exercises are mostly swings and each of the kettlebell sets are 45 seconds in duration. Like many 30 Minutes to Fitness workouts, the DVD features two workouts that share a warm up. Each workout has its own cool down. Both workouts follow the same pattern. The DVD menu offers the following options: Introduction Warm up Workout One Workout Two Premixes - Includes 12 premixes Bonus Step (22:41) Credits Music on/off The Bonus Step workout is a super fast workout.  With this workout, I started off with my step height at 6 inches but took it down to 4 inches.  Next time I do the workout I will probably increase it back to 6 inches.  Now while the workout moves fast, Kelly uses a relatively e...

Paul Katami Kettlebell Krush - Thoughts

Image
Kettlebell Krush is a 41 minute workout.  It is a drill based workout. Throughout the workout you are doing 30 seconds of work and this is followed by 10 seconds of rest.  There is a countdown clock in the lower right corner. The workout moves from one exercise to the next. Paul uses the 10 second break to explain the next exercise or next sequence. Along with Paul, there are two other exercisers. One person is doing advance moves and the other person modifies the moves. Paul does quite a bit of the workout but he also stops to coach and point out form on the other two participants. This workout was challenging. The best part about the workout is the length. I found this to be a very efficient workout. The DVD menu offers the following options: Intro/Clinic (this segment is just over 3 minutes. Workout music off. 4 stars

Paul Katami - Kettlebell Konnect - Thoughts

Image
Kettlebell Konnect is a 58 minute workout and it is all about connections.  Paul starts with one move and he continues to layer and/or add on additional components (moves) to create an intricate compound combination. And yes, by the time he is done most of the connections (Paul spells konnections with a K) are quite complex. There is a 5 minute warm up before you move into the connections. There are  six konnections. The konnections vary in number of components and length.  Some of the konnections are cardio base, some are strength base.  Some require balance.  Konnection 6 is your core segment. There is a five minute stretch. There are three additional cast members.  One cast member is showing modifications and performs the moves with a dumbbell. Only one kettlebell and a mat are used. The music is background and the set is spacious. The DVD menu offers the following options: Intro/Clinic - 12 minutes Kettlebell Konnect Workout [music off] ...

Amy Dixon Raise Some Bells - Thoughts

Image
Amy Dixon 's Raise Some Bells is a 41 minute kettlebell workout. Amy uses one kettlebell to take you through a series of progressive exercises. You do the exercises for approximately 12 to 16 reps.  Some of the exercises are layered.  So the first four reps are done at the most basic level, then the next four reps, Amy adds to the exercise and then she might change it up again after another four reps. Amy  moves from one exercise to the next without much of a break. In many cases, you start the exercise at half tempo before moving on to full tempo. The full tempo of the workout can be quite fast. The DVD Menu Ultimate KB Workout Ultimate KB Workout - Without Intro KB Core Workout KB Core Workout - Without Intro Kettlebell101 The core workout is 7 minutes and the KB 101 is approximately 5 and 1/2 minutes. I like this workout.  The music is pretty good.  The set is okay  Along with Amy, there are two other cast members.  One cast...

Kelly Coffey Meyer Slim Sculpting - Thoughts

Image
Slim Sculpting is one of Kelly fall 2014 workouts. The DVD offers the following menu options: Introduction Workout One Workout Two Premixes Credits Workout One and Workout Two share the same warm up but they each have their own cool down stretch. This is a Kettlebell workout that uses a Tabata format.  There are four rounds for each exercise. I believe we were doing each exercise for 30 seconds with a 15 second rest. There was not a clock down count which was a bummer. I did both workouts.  In workout two there is one move called the Plank Hold. Two of the cast members do this move with there hands on the floor. Kelly and another cast members hold there plank holding onto the kettlebell. I tried Kelly's version and crashed to the floor twice trying this move.  Kelly does state that she "does not expect everyone to do that version, she is just showing you want you can do if you are able" . Clearly I was not able. I had DOMS in my thighs and butt after this w...

Kettlebell Kickboxing Diversity DVD 4 - Thoughts

Image
Kettlebell Kickboxing Diversit y is the fourth DVD in Dasha Libin's Scorcher Series. This workout is only about 25 minutes and doesn't contain a warm up. This workout is meant to be an add on and it is Ab/Core Focus. Along with a Kettlebell or dumbbell you will need a mat. Most of the exercises are floor exercises. I like this one - probably the best of the 4 workouts. It is short and to the point. It follows a similar format as the other workouts. You do a series of moves for one minute each and after about 4 exercises you get a break before starting the next series of workouts. 3 & 3/4 stars

Kettebell Kickboxing DVD 3 Longevity - Thoughts

Image
Kettlebell Kickboxing Longevity is DVD#3 in Dasha Libin's Scorcher Series.  This workout is approximately 43 minutes long and the pattern of the workout is very similar to the Power and Strength DVDs.  This workout starts out with a warm up and the first two minutes you are simulating a jump roping motion.  The warm up also includes alternating front and back kicks, oblique twist knee pulls and warm up exercises for the shoulder. The cool down contains bear hugs, diagonal arm extensions and static stretches for the lower and upper body. Dasha does not mirror cue (not a big deal with this type of workout) and she is still very chatty. The best thing about this work is there was only one set of squat thrusters/burpees and that was the very last exercise of the workout.  I actually thought we were going to make it through the whole workout without doing this overused moved. Another thing I notices about the workout is that when it comes to the plyo sets, Dasha doe...

Kettlebell Kickboxing DVD 2 Strength - Thoughts

Image
Kettlebell Kickboxing Strength clocks in at just over 39 minutes.  This workout is part of Dasha Libin Scorcher Series.  The workout mixes kettlebell moves with kickboxing moves. Strength is the second DVD of the series and it is characterized as Total Body Fat Loss. I thought  it was really similar to the first DVD in tempo and style although the exercises are different. There are two clocks. One counts down the overall workout and one counts down the time for each exercise. Dasha tells you the exercise and if you know it, she tells you to get going. If you don't know it, she demonstrates the moves for one or two reps before stopping to check on the cast members and offer tips. The cast member do not work in unison. Everyone is going at their own pace. With workouts like these, once I see the exercise, I will turn away from the TV and work at my own pace.   Love the length of the workout. There is music but it really doesn't enhance the workout.  3 s...

Kettlebell Kickboxing DVD 1 Power - Thoughts

Image
Kettlebell Kickboxing Powe r is part of the Kettlebell Kickboxing Scorcher Series with Dasha Libin.  There are four workouts in the series. These are my first workouts with Dasha and the one thing that I can say about her is she is chatty.  Non stop chatter. Non stop talking.  However, you can tell she is well trained.  Her form and execution are both excellent. Power is the first DVD. The DVD describes this workout as Arms, Glutes, Inner Thighs and Obliques. It is divided into a series of 5 minute circuits. You do about 4 exercises back to back for about a minute each. You then get about a minute break before moving on to the next circuit. Dasha integrates Kickboxing with Kettlebells, sometimes alternating the two. I actually thought the workout was light on Kickboxing. You are working at your own pace. Dasha has four cast members in the workout with her and each of the ladies are working at their own pace. There is a person doing beginner modifications ...

Paul Katami Burn & Build - Thoughts

Image
Burn & Build is a kettlebell workout featuring Paul Katami. This workout uses a high step which Paul often refers to as "the board". Along with Paul, there are three cast members. One cast member is modifying the moves and this person uses a dumbbell instead of a kettlebell. The workout contains a warm up, seven exercise blocks and an ending stretch. At about 70 minutes, I thought the workout long. Like KettleBell Drills and KettleBell Kombos each exercise is timed. However in this workout the timed exercise are for 90 and 60 seconds. For instance the first two warm up exercises start off with a 90 second timed leg drill. The first two warm up exercises, you do not used the bell or the high step. The warm up is about 10 minutes. Each of the seven blocks has a particular theme or focus. Cardio focus, core focus, strength & power focus are the predominate themes. You are doing each exercise in each block for 60 seconds. Each block is roughly 7 to 8 minutes. The b...

Paul Katami Kettlebell Kombos - Thoughts

Image
Kettlebell Kombos is a 41 minute workout featuring Paul Katami. In this workout, Paul combines a series of moves together creating mini combinations. He does each set of moves for 30 or 60 seconds. Depending on how elaborate the combo is, you may go through two complete cycles in a 30 second period. In that case, Paul often repeats the combo for another 30 seconds. We are talking per side. Almost all the combos have a right and left lead. There are some combos that alternate the lead and most of the combos are 60 seconds long. There are approximately 3, maybe 4 - what I call Practice Breaks - where Paul has you practice the move before starting the clock. I kind of think this was unnecessary for him to do because he already demonstrates the move before he sets the clock. Other than the practice breaks and the constant stopping to check form, (that is just his style of training - at least that is what I gather) I like this workout. The music is just okay. The set is a warehouse. At...

Paul Katami Kettlebell Drills - Thoughts

Image
Kettlebell Drills is about 36 minutes in length and features Paul Katami. The music is minimal, mostly background and the set is a warehouse. The DVD contains three separate workouts. There is a Clinic or Tutorial. That is a little over 30 minutes. There is the Drills workout and there is a Core specific workouts. The core workout is about 18 minutes. This review is just of the Drills workout. So, along with Paul, there are two other cast members (Toby and Sarah). Sarah is your modifier. Paul likes to stop and point out form. He does this quite a bit. It's annoying because it is not natural. It appears to be very scripted. The workout starts off with a warm up and the warm up uses the kettlebell. I was okay with this. Normally, I get annoyed with using weights in a warm up, but this didn't bother me. Now, I did use my lightest kettlebell for the warm up. Because the warm up exercises are timed as well, there is really no distinction of when the warm up ends and the actua...

Amy Bento KB2 - Thoughts

Image
A 65 minute workout, KB2 combines Kickboxing combos with Kettlebell Intervals. There are four combos and four intervals. These are surrounded by a warm up at the beginning and a cool down and stretch at the end. Kickboxing combo sections : The combos are more drill base than routine base.. Certainly, they are less intricate that many of Amy's other Kickboxing workout. I like the combos. Amy does include a couple of new moves that haven't been in her other workouts. In terms of content within each combo, the warm up and combo 1 probably has the most content. The others seem short on content but made up for it in repetition. There is lots of repetition. Also, the combos are super easy to follow. The Kettlebell Sections : In some intervals, Amy uses two kettlebells and in some intervals, she uses only one. Interval 1: High Pull, Snatch, Middle Get up (1 kettlebell) Interval 2: Dual Swings, Dual Cleans, Front Loaded Squats (2 kettlebells) Interval 3: Push ups, Renegade Row...

Angie Miller Kettlebell Bootcamp - Thoughts

Image
Kettlebell Bootcamp is a 54 minute workout featuring Angie Miller. This is my first time doing this video and I have had this workout for a long long time. I bought it because I kept hearing about Kettlebell this and Kettlebell that. The only other Kettlebell workouts I have tried have been Kettlenetics, The FIRM's TransFIRM Your Trouble Zone and Absolute Beginner's 3 in 1 Kettlebell. I just wasn't crazy about the Kettlebell and that type of training. So this workout just sat on the shelf. This workout is led by Angie Miller and this is my first time working out with Angie. I found her to be really pleasant and likable - very easy going and encouraging without being over the top. The DVD features a tutorial. It also has music only options for the various sets. The workout is broken into 8 sets. In the, 8 sets you are performing various swing, strength, and cardio type Kettlebell moves for both the lower and upper body. The time for each set is listed below. Set 1...

TransFIRM Your Troublezones - Review

Image
TransFIRM your Trouble zones is a 45 minute Kettlebell workout. It uses a 5lb kettlebell in what is becoming the FIRM's typical floor aerobics/toning workouts. I am not a fan of the Kettlebell and didn't particularly care for this workout, but I do like Kelsie Daniels. I think she is an awesome instructor and lead. Kelsie takes you through many basic and elementary kettlebell movements. Every once in awhile, you put the KB down for cardio intensity burst. For the most part though, even during some of the cardio work, you are always using the KB. This is not a bad workout. I am just lukewarm about it. Like Dangerous Curves Ahead, this workout had terrible sound quality. 3 stars out of 5

Gin Miller Calorie Burning Workout with Kettlebells - Review

Image
Calorie Burner Workotu with Kettlebells I do not do much Kettlebell training or exercise DVDs. In fact this is only my second Kettlebell workout DVD that I have done; although I actually own a total of 5 KB workout DVDs. So for not having much KB experience, I thought this was a nice workout. I thought instructional but not very inspiring. I like Gin and I like the music, but this workout doesn't really make me want to further my KB training. The workout itself has a warm up, 3 workouts KB sections, and a cool down. It is approximately 49 minutes in length. What I thought was really cool was the different views and the split views that Gin used to demonstrate the moves. You were able to see front and back views and front and side views at the same time. While I think there were some nice aspects to the workout, I don't think I will be doing it again. I am really kind of lukewarm on it. I am giving it 2 1/2 out of 5 stars.
