Cathe Lift, Move, & Restore Functional Barre Fusion

Image
Functional Barre Fusion clocks in at 48 minutes.  In this workout, Cathe takes you through 5 rounds or circuits of a lower body exercise, an upper body exercise and a core exercise.  You are doing anywhere from 8 to 28 reps depending on the exercise. As you go in and out of each exercise, you will pull out various pieces of equipment for use.  Equipment use include the STS bar (or chair), mini ball, mini loop band and a single disc.  The workout moves at a moderate pace. There is enough time for a brief stretch between the exercises and rounds as Cathe uses this time to chat or demonstrate a move or offer form pointers. I think this workout here is my favorite in the entire LM&R series. 4 stars

Sleek Technique: Sleek Barre Technique - Thoughts

Image
Sleek Technique Sleek Barre Technique is a a ballet barre style workout led by Victoria Marr and Flik Swan. The DVD Menu Introduction Tutorial Warm Up Ballet Barre 1 Ballet Barre 2 Ballet Barre 3 Cool Down Credits So before we begin, I will just say these types of workouts are always challenging for me and this barre workout was no different. I like that the DVD was broken down in such a way that you could digest the material in smaller segments. There are three barre sessions on this DVD plus a warm up and a cool down. I added the warm up and cool down to each ballet barre class and did the workouts as three separate classes over the course of the week. The warm up features both Victoria and Flik but only Victoria is in the cool down segment. With warm up and cool down, each of the workouts clocked in just above 30 minutes in length.  All three ballet barre segment use a portable ballet barre, but they tell you that you can use a chair if you do not have one. Essentrics Workout - Review

Image
I think Essentrics Workout was the first Essentrics DVD produce.  It features Sahra Esmonde-White as the lead. This particular DVD contains two 30-minute workouts and it is a bit more advance and a good workout to do after becoming comfortable with the beginner DVD even though this workout was produced first.  First instance, it has almost the exact same exercises as the Beginner DVD but in the workouts that are on this DVD, you are doing many more reps.  The first workout is Arms, Abs, & Waist Toner.    There is a standing segment and a floor segment.  The standing segment includes a brief warm up and a challenging arm session. It is approximately 22 minutes in length. The floor segments contains traditional abs work, uses a mat and it is a little over 9 minutes in length. Sahra intermixes toning with stretching.  The second workout is Legs, Butt & Thigh Thinner . This workout contains three segments. The standing segments is 6 minutes...

Essentrics Toning For Beginners - Review

Image
Essentrics Toning for Beginners features two 30 minute workouts that are lead by Sahra Esmonde White.  Sahra is the only one in both workouts. Both workouts contain full body toning in that you are working your arms, abs (waist) and legs. Sahra methodically teaches you the basic moves used throughout many of the Essentrics workouts.  You get little snippets of the moves used in the other workouts. In most cases, you are only doing four reps per side and Sahra switches sides quite frequently. In some spots, the workout felt like it moved very slowly. And Sahra does tell you it is a "slow paced" workout. The difference between workout 1 and workout 2 is that workout 1 features a floor segment that uses a mat and block and workout 2 features a barre segment that uses a chair.  The DVD offers the following options: 1) Instructions & How To's  (10 Minutes) 2) Floor Toning (30 Minutes) 3) Barre Toning (30 Minutes) In the Instruction/How To's, Sahra goes ...

Cathe Lean Legs & Abs - Review

Image
Lean Legs & Abs is Cathe latest lower body workout and it clocks in at  approximately 48 minutes in length. It features a series of mostly standing lower body exercises some of which have a cardio factor that Cathe uses to get the heart rate up. I like this workout because the compound leg portion only used weights and your own body weight.  So very minimum equipment wise. A chair and the fire walker band are used in other parts of the workout. I also really like the core section. It had the right amount of variety for me and the exercises chosen alternated into being challenging for me and just the right amount of tension.  I think this Core segment is going to become a favorite of mine. There is a bonus barre segment that I did not do. The DVD also contains six premises. Lean Legs & Abs + Bonus Barre (61:11) Lean Legs & Abs + Bonus Barre (no core) (50:57) Lean Legs & Abs + Bonus Barre (no chair /firwalker) (50:00) Timesaver #1 ...

Leah Sarago Ballet Body Total Body - Review

Image
Ballet Body by Leah Sarago has the following DVD menu options: Play Full Workout (75 minutes) Warm up (5 minutes) Upper Body Workout (20 Minutes) uses light dumbbells Lower Body Workout (20 Minutes)  uses a barre Core Workout (20 Minutes) Cool Down/Stretch (10 Minutes) Instructional Segment (12 Minutes) There is also a 3 minute introduction to the workout. Except for the Instructional Segment, Leah is the only cast member. During the Instructional Segment, Leah has Daina, show different modifications for the core, upper, and lower body exercises that you will see Leah perform in the main part of the workout. At 75 minutes, I did think the main workout long but you can choose to do just a couple of the individual workouts or even parts of those individual workouts. While the workout as a whole moves from exercise to exercise without stopping, the DVD does contain chapter points (segments) that allow you to move forward to a particular point on the DVD. In the U...

Jazzercise Ballet Body - Review

Image
Ballet Body by Jazzercise is lead by Emily Tyson, Ashley McConnell, and Emily Newland .  It is approximately 40 minutes in length.  It contains a warm up, 6 sculpting tracks, and a cool down. Track 1 - lower body (standing) Track 2 - upper body (standing) Track 3 - lower body (standing) Track 4 - lower body (standing) Track 5 - core (standing/floor) Track 6 - lower body (floor) I do not do a lot of barre style workouts, so I thought several aspects of this workout tough.  I did like like the length of the workout- just long enough to be challenging but not so long  I got bored.  I tend to get bored with barre style workouts.   I thought both the instructors and the soundtrack great, and I love the vibe that they gave off. There is a chair used in the standing lower body tracks and a mat used for the floor work.  During the workout, one of the instructors shows advance moves and another one shows beginner modifications. DVD Menu Op...

Tracey Mallet The Booty Barre Beginners & Beyond - Thoughts

Image
The Booty Barre Beginners & Beyond . The main workouts is 35 minutes.  This is definitely one to start with.  I felt it more doable than last week's barre workout.  Not that it wasn't challenging, I still felt the burn , but the individual segments were shorter making it easier. Tracey offers several modifications from basic beginner to beginner-plus to intermediate throughout this workout.  Tracey did the beginner-plus version.  There was a cast member who did beginner-basic and another cast member doing intermediate.  I alternated between doing the beginner-basic and beginner-plus moves. A chair and a pair of hand-weights are used in the workout. There is a tutorial section on the DVD. This section offers sub-titles detailing what move you are learning to execute.   It is about 12 minutes long. There is also a bonus sections:  Abs, Booty, and Flexibility. This section uses a mat and is about 14 minutes. The set is clean and br...

Tracey Mallet The Booty Barre Plus Abs & Arms - Thoughts

Image
The Booty Barre Plus Abs & Arms was a tough workout for me.  I did this workout in parts. Mostly because it is a long workout. It clocks in at 79 minutes. This is definitely a workout I need to build up endurance for.  I don't do many barre type workouts and I am sure that is why. I did like the workout.  Tracey is pleasant to workout with.  Her instruction is clear, concise and helpful.  There is a beginner modifier that shows how to make the moves less intense There is a DVD menu that allows you to choose the following sections: Play All - ~ 79 minutes Fusion Warm Up - ~ 7 minutes Killer Arms - ~ 14 minutes Booty Barre & Abs - ~35 minutes Core Challenge & Calming Stretch - ~ 24 minutes The  Killer Arms section uses a set of 3 to 5lbs weights. In this section you are doing lots of isometric and/or high rep exercises. There is a lot of shoulder work. The Booty Barre & Abs sections uses a chair and a ball.  Tracey works on...

Karen Voight Ballet Bodysculpt - Thoughts

Image
Last up with the Barre workouts is Karen Voight's Ballet Bodysculpt. I have been racking my brain to see if I previously did a Karen Voight workout and nothing comes to mind. So I think Ballet Bodysculpt is my first workout from her. As an instructor, I thought she was very good. Precise cuing, excellent form, comfortable demeanor are all characteristics I would use to describe her. Ballet Bodysculpt is a barre workout. It is 40 minutes in length and contains the following segments : Warm Up Chair (barre) Exercises Abdominals Matwork 1 Matwork 2 Cool Down Along with a chair, Karen uses a mat and an inflatable ball. The segments are short but tough. I thought each section moved right along making for an efficient workout. The set is an outdoor set. It is Karen's ranch in Montana. When I first saw a clip of this workout, I remember thinking "They could have cut the grass." Karen is actually working out on what looks like hardwood floor placed over the grass. The mus...

Tracey Mallet The Booty Barre - Thoughts

Image
Continuing with my barre workouts is The Booty Barre featuring Tracey Mallet. This workout is on the lengthy side, clocking in at 64 minutes. The workout uses a chair as the barre, a mat and a set of light weights. Tracey and cast used 3 to 5 lbs. I used 1 and 2lb weights. The sections in the workout are : Booty Barre Warm-up (about 9 minutes) Booty Barre Sculpted Arms (about 10 minutes - uses light weights) Booty Barre Workout (about 33 minutes - uses a chair) Booty Barre Abs & Flexibility (about 13 minutes - uses a mat) I really really like the Sculpted Arms sections. I used lighter weights than Tracey and felt the burn. I think this is a section I can really workout up too. The barre workout which is the lower body workout left with me foot fatigue. You are up on your tip toes quite a bit and I think this is why I experience the fatigue. In this section, Tracey fuses the moves with a bit of jazzy dance. I like the way the camera followed Tracey as she switch from side to s...
