Viveca Jensen Piloxing - Review

Image
Piloxing is a 60-minute workout lead by Viveca Jensen.  It is  primarily a combination of Pilates exercises and boxing moves, but Viveca includes ballet and dance movement as well. The workout is set to up tempo music and many of the moves are performed quite fast. When Viveca introduces a segment, she will teach it at a slower tempo and then after about the 4 reps, the moves are performed at tempo or double time. You have rounds of boxing, followed by Pilates.  Dance breaks are dispersed throughout and the dance is typically used as an active recovery. Boxing is your power segments and it includes moves such as  speed bags,  jabs, crosses, crossjacks, shuffle jacks, football runs,  hooks and uppercuts. Pilates and barre exercises include plies, arm pumps, leg lifts, tendu, leg taps, and knee pose. The workout concludes with a floor segment where you are working the glutes, chest, and the abs.  This is followed by an ending stretch. Expect lots of rep...

Viveca Jensen Power Sculpt 2 - Review

Image
Power Sculpt 2 is the 2nd sculpting workout in the Piloxing system. This workout too is a short one clocking in a little bit longer than the 1st power sculpt workout. Viveca leads two other cast mates and us at home in working the butt, thighs, and abs. The cast is working out on a circular raised platform.  Like the first power sculpt workout, this one does not have a warm up nor does it have a cool down. You are pretty much working in the same positions but you are doing somewhat different exercises than those performed in the first workout. So there is a table top segment, a bridge segment, lying side segment and abs segment. Expect lots of pulses, high energy music and very little rest. Another good one and another one that would be great as an add on if you wanted some extra lower body and ab focus work. 3 & 3/4 stars

Viveca Jensen Power Sculpt 1 - Review

Piloxing Power Sculpt 1 is short, sweet and intense.  It clocks in at just over 16 minutes. It is a floor base workout in which Viveca works your butt, thighs, and abs. There is not a warm up nor a cool down. The first group of exercises are done in the table top position with back leg pulses, knee shootouts, knee reaches, side hamstring curls, side leg pulses. Of course what you do on what side you do on the other. Then Viveca takes you into the supine position where you perform a series of  bridge exercises. Next segment has you lying on you side for outer thigh work. The last section works the abs and here you do a variety of upper and lower crunches.  There is also some bicycle and scissor work. I felt the burn on several of the exercises. This would be great as an add on workout. Along with Viveca, there are two other class participants.  The music is the same up beat music that was used in the Piloxing Round workouts. 3 & 3/4 stars

Viveca Jensen Piloxing Round 3 - Thoughts

Image
Piloxing Round 3 clocks in at just around 51 minutes.  It follows pretty much a similar pattern as Rounds 1 and Round 2. The warm up moves are the same as Round 1 and Round 2. After the warm up, Round 3 starts off with a boxing segment and then follows with a standing Pilates segment. This pretty much became the pattern boxing followed by Pilates.   In Round 3, there wasn't as much dance and the dance that there was included Pilates.  Some dance moves were used as transition within the segments as you went from performing the moves on one side to the other side. The boxing in Round 3 is more drill based than combo base but contains foot work so you are not just standing in one place throwing punches. The standing Pilates had a lot of balance work on one leg. There was less arm work in Round 3 compared to Round 2. Rather I should say, less arm pumps but there were quite a few arm holds. There is not a modifier in the workout but for couple of the moves, Viveca sh...

Viveca Jensen Piloxing Round 2 - Thoughts

Image
Piloxing Round 2 is approximately 50 minutes long.  Viveca takes you through a warm up that is similar to the warm up in Round 1.   After the warm up, you enter a boxing cardio segment where you perform boxing drills and boxing combos that included fast football feet, twisting core work, and directional jabs. In the Pilates block you work your arms with lots of arm pumps/pulse type moves and you work your legs with leg lifts. The word here is elongation.  Viveca uses it a lot.  The Pilates block also contains lots of balance work.   After Pilates is the cardio dance segment. The cardio is high in the dance segments.  The music is fast and in some spots you are definitely doing the moves at tempo and with lots of flair. You repeat blocks of boxing, Pilates, and cardio dance with different moves until the cool down.  Between the boxing and Pilates segments, Viveca will give you a moment to "take it down"and get your breath before moving into...

Viveca Jensen Piloxing Round 1 - Thoughts

Image
Piloxing Round 1 is 54 minute workout set to high energy music. The workout starts with a warm up that is about 4 minutes.  It then moves into the main part of the workout where you are alternating boxing, Pilates and dance movements.  The workout concludes with 4 minute cool down. The boxing combinations are fast pace with lots of reps but simple to follow. Double jabs, single jabs, jab-cross-hook-upper are examples of the punches in the boxing combinations. The Pilates segments are standing Pilates so expect quite a bit of balance work as well as core work. There are also a high amount of reps in the Pilates segments.  I felt the music was too fast for the Pilates segments; at least it was for me. The dance segments felt more like transitions or recovery, although the moves were quite fast. It was the time when you shook out (thawed out) the body, loosen it up a bit. Viveca and the cast are wearing the 1/2 pound gloves which she wears throughout except of the ...
