Viveca Jensen Piloxing - Review

Image
Piloxing is a 60-minute workout lead by Viveca Jensen.  It is  primarily a combination of Pilates exercises and boxing moves, but Viveca includes ballet and dance movement as well. The workout is set to up tempo music and many of the moves are performed quite fast. When Viveca introduces a segment, she will teach it at a slower tempo and then after about the 4 reps, the moves are performed at tempo or double time. You have rounds of boxing, followed by Pilates.  Dance breaks are dispersed throughout and the dance is typically used as an active recovery. Boxing is your power segments and it includes moves such as  speed bags,  jabs, crosses, crossjacks, shuffle jacks, football runs,  hooks and uppercuts. Pilates and barre exercises include plies, arm pumps, leg lifts, tendu, leg taps, and knee pose. The workout concludes with a floor segment where you are working the glutes, chest, and the abs.  This is followed by an ending stretch. Expect lots of rep...

Cathe FitSplit Boxing BootCamp and Legs & Glutes - Thoughts

Image
Boxing Bootcamp and Legs & Glutes are two workouts that come with Cathe's FitSplit series. The two workouts can be performed separately or as one workout.  I did each of the workout separately.          Boxing BootCamp   consists of a lengthy warm up, three kickboxing combos and a brief cool down.   In the combos, you are doing traditional kickboxing moves (jabs, cross, hooks, uppers, knees, and a bit of kicking). There are also Muay Thai moves in the form of elbow strikes.  Expect lots of impact as there is quite a bit of jumping. Cathe uses kickboxing gloves.  The music is set to high tempo beat. Each of the combos flow pretty well together and the workout moves quickly, it was over before I knew it. Legs & Glutes is your lower body focused workout.  The workout moves quickly from exercise to exercise and the rest are short.  The workout uses a high step, a disc or glide device, a mat,...

Kelly Coffey-Meyer Meltdown - Thoughts

Image
30 Minutes to Fitness Meltdown features two very distinct workouts.  Each workout clocks in right under 28 minutes each. Workout one is a dumbbell/barbell workout that takes you through a series of three rounds.  The dumbbell exercises are compound or dynamic in nature. You are doing the dumbbell exercises for 1 minutes. The barbell exercises are power moves.  You do each of the power moves for 10 reps.  There is one body weight exercise.  At then end of round 3, Kelly throws in a finisher exercise. Workout two is tabata boxing.  There are 6 rounds featuring three boxing complexes. In each round you have a right lead and a left lead. After you do both sides, Kelly throws in a cardio based exercise before moving onto the next round.  There are bells that sound that let you know when you are approaching the end of  the 20 seconds.  Bob and weave is your 10 second transition move. There are bell sounds that signal this as well. The be...

Kelly Coffey Meyer Cardio Pump - Review

Image
30 Minutes To Fitness  Cardio Pump is a Kelly Coffey Meyer Spring 2015 release.  Cardio Pump features two 30 minutes workouts. Workout one is a cardio boxing workout that clocks in at 30 minutes.  Kelly extended her cast for this.  Besides Kelly, there are seven cast members. I really like this one.  The music is upbeat and high tempo and full of energy that doesn't feel forced.  The combinations flowed really well together and felt seamless.   There is a kickboxing element to the workout, although I will say there is more boxing than kicking. Workout two is Pump.  It has the same cast as Workout One and it clocks in at just under 33 minutes.  This workout shares the same warm up as Workout one.  In Pump, Kelly takes your through each body part.  There are three exercises per body part and you do each exercise for one set for around a minute.  Workout Two is quite a bit slower in tempo and energy than Workou...

Kelly Coffey Meyer Trim Down - Thoughts

Image
Kelly's latest 30 Minutes To Fitness workout is Trim Down .  Trim Down contains two workouts and each is a combination of boxing drills and dumbbell exercises.  It alternates dumbbell exercises with cardio boxing drills. The DVD menu gives you the following options: Introduction Workout One Workout Two Premixes Credits There is also a music on/off option Workouts One and Two share the warm up, but they each have their own cool down.    I created a worksheet only for the dumbbell exercises. This workout has the following premixes : Boxing Drills - Both Workouts 31 Weight Work Drills - Both Workouts 29 Combined Workouts 54 Kelly's Favorite Mix 20 Mixed Trim Down #1 30 Mixed Trim Down #2 32 I have done two of the premixes which are the Boxing Drills @ 31 minutes and the Combine workouts @57 minutes.  The DVD states the Combine Premix is only 54 minutes but it is really 57 minutes. I l...

Michael Olijade's Aerobox Burn & Express Workouts - Thoughts

Image
Aerobox Burn and Aer o box Express. These two workouts are definitely the best in the bunch. Aerobox Express is approximately 21 & 1/2 minutes in length. And it is a straight up boxing workout.  Michael takes you through a series of punches.  You learn the punch combination in demo mode, you practice in exercise mode, and you take it up a notch in fight mode. This is a layered workout where Michael adds combos as you move along.  I believe there is a total of 6 combinations.  So by the end of the workout you are doing them all super fast in fight mode which I found extremely challenging.  I was definitely flailing the arms in some spots.  Definitely my favorite of the bunch. The only thing I didn't like about it is you only do the workout on one side of the body.  I guess you can switch it then next time you do the workout but you will really  have to know the workout and how the combos flow especially when you move up to fight speed. ...

Aerospace Savage - Thoughts

Image
Savage is a workout featuring Michael Olijade Jr. It clocks in at about 55 minutes. The workout consist of boxing drills, jump rope drills and squat drills. Each round features these three disciplines and there are four rounds. The warm up is about 3 minutes and as warm ups go, I didn't care for it. Michael does tell you if you are not warmed up enough to do more. The Savage workout does not have a cool down. There is a second workout on this disc called Serene (reviewed July 11, 2010) that you can do for your cool down if you like but it is a 30 minute workout. The set is a boxing ring that has a chair in corner, a water bottle on the floor and it's dark. At one point, in one of the rounds or at the end of the round, Michael tells you to keep moving but he goes and sits in the chair that is in the corner. I thought that comical. The music, I think is pretty good. The workout is choreograph pretty precisely with the music. When Michael does the boxing speed drills, the...

Kathy Smith Aerobox Workout - Thoughts

Image
Kathy Smith Aerobox Workout features Michael Olajide Jr and is approximately 50 minutes long. The workout is really led by Michael, with Kathy offering a tip here and there. This workout originally came out in 1999 on VHS. I have the workout on DVD and the DVD is chaptered very nicely. The DVD Menu is as follows : Kathy's Intro Warm Up (7 mins) Stationary Boxing (10 mins) Stick and Move 1 (5 mins) Jump Rope 1 & Stick and Move 2 (6 mins) Jump Rope 2 & Stick and Move 3 (6 mins) Jump Rope 3 (4 mins) Aerobic Cool Down (6 mins) Stretches (4 mins) Kathy's Intro is very good. She and Michael spend some time going over the moves and talking about why you take a certain stance as well as they go over the punches. I found Michael's instructions very informative with some great tips. Out of the Boxing sections, the boxing in the Aerobic Cool Down section is my favorite. The Stationary Boxing section is good also but at times I thought the punches were super fast. Kathy do...

Kelly Coffey-Meyer TLC: Train Like A Contender

Image
I have not worked out since I did Rock Solid Abs. That has been almost two weeks ago. I have been moving and you never know how much stuff you have until you move. Although I think I burn just as much if not more calories moving. There was a lot of walking up and down the stairs moving boxes, furniture and just overall stuff. Anyway I am just now getting myself organized to actually have the time and space to do workouts. On the menu for yesterday and today - Kelly Coffey-Meyer 30 Minutes To Fitness TLC (Train Like A Contender). I broke the workouts up into its two parts. So first let's talk about Workout #1 Boxing. Actually I will get back to that in a second. Let's talk about the DVD. There are several sections on the DVD and they are: Introduction Warm-Up Quick Warm-Up Workout #1 (Boxing) Workout #2 (Conditioning) Stretch Bonus(Flip Up/Push Up) Premixes Boxing Combos Credits and the Music On/Off option. Because I was short on time for Workout #1 I did the Quick Warm-Up. T...

AeroSpace AeroBarre - Thoughts

Image
AeroBarre is a 50 minute workout that combines ballet and boxing interval cardio and sculpting sets. It features Leila Fazel as the "demonstrator" of the moves and exercises and Michael Olajide Jr as the narrator. The set is a boxing ring, although Leila doesn't use the ring. She exercises in front of it. The workout contains 11 rounds, but the rounds are short. There is a warm up and cool down round and in between that, there are rounds that feature ballet moves, boxing moves and a combination of ballet and boxing moves. Leila uses a light set of hand weights and a body bar in various parts of the exercises. There were simple cardio burst dispersed throughout. This is a really unique workout and I felt quite challenged. I am not very good at ballet or boxing, although I like them both. Leila varied the tempo quite a bit. The faster she would go, the harder it would be for me to controls the move and it didn't matter if she was doing boxing drills or ballet drills. ...
