Les Mills On Demand Body Combat #66 - Thoughts

Image
Les Mills On Demand is now adding longer workouts to the On Demand channel. At first most of the workouts were shorten to be just 30 minutes in length. Now for some of the workouts, you have the option of doing  a shorter 30 minute workout or the longer original version of the workout. Les Mills On Demand Body Combat #66 clocks at around the 55 minute mark. Dan and Rachael are the presenters. The different segments and approximate times are below.   The segments are: 1a.  Upper Body Warm up - 4:20 1b.  Lower Body Warmup - 4:15 2.  Combat 1 - 5:22 3.  Power Training 1 - 6:49 4.  Combat 2 - 5:54 5.  Power Training 2 - 6:08 6.  Combat 3 - 4:11 7.  Muay Thai - 4:52 8.  Power Training 3 - 7:25 9.  Conditioning Core - 2:57 10.  Cool Down 3:11 Now while the Power Training Segments are long, and they are long; Dan and Rachael do give you breaks within those training blocks. You get a break when you are ready to ...

Les Mills On Demand Body Combat #59 - Thoughts

Image
Les Mills On Demand Body Combat #59 clocks in at just over 31 minutes.  The presenters in this workout are: Dan Cohen Rachael Newsham Pernilla Blomquist Mika Kankainen. However there are a lot of other cast members on stage that come in and out depending on the round. The segments featured: 01a Upper Body Warm up 4:10 01b Lower Body Warm Up 4:30 2 Combat 1 4:03 3 Power Training 1 5:06 4 Combat 2 5:22 5 Power Training 2 6:00 I enjoyed the upper body warm up in this one as it featured blocks and strikes. Combat 1 was led by Mika and Power Training 1 by Pernilla and both of these were high energy fast past segments especially the Power Training. Again the workout, just ends after Power Training 2. 3 & 3/4 stars

Les Mills Combat Inner Warrior Stretch & Strength - Thoughts

Image
Inner Warrior Stretch & Strength is lead by Rachael.  It is a workout designed to work on your flexibility and features tai chi and kata martial arts  stretching.  There is a definite flow to this workout.  Rachael is very methodical and precise as she takes you through the various mini combos or katas. The workout clocks in at 18:05.  It is broken down into the following tracks: Track 1 - 6:09 (Kata) Track 2 - 6:24 (Chi Ball Kata) Track 3 -5:31 (Floor Based) As you move through the katas, you are developing strength in your legs and you are stretching your hamstrings and abductors.  You also get to work on your mid, low, and high blocks.  The last track is floor based and contains traditional stretching and yoga poses. Great soundtrack, the set looks like a modified warehouse. I like this one.  3 & 3/4 stars

Les Mills Combat Warrrior Workouts - Thoughts

Image
Warrior 1 Upper Body Blow Out is a 25 minute workout.  It is lead by Dan Cohen.  Along with Dan, there are 5 other cast members. One cast member does show modification moves. The workout contains the following : Track 1 - Warm up - 6:34 (bear crawls, pushups) Track 2 - 4:24 (alt shoulder press with squats) Track 3 - 6:24 (burpees, ski abs,  Single arm shoulder press) Track 4 - 3:28 (Core, crunches, leg extensions, mountain climbers) Track 5 - Cool down 3:20 (stretch) There is quite a lot of lower body work in this upper body workout.  As far as the upper body muscle groups, it is the shoulders that get the most work. Equipment - set of dumbbells This workout was okay.  3 & 1/4 stars Warrior 2 Lower Body Lean Out is a 30 minute workout. It is lead by Rachel.  There are 5 other cast members and one cast member shows modifications.    Workout Breakdown Track 1 - Warm Up - 3:40 (jog/run) Track 2 - 6:54 (kicks, tae kwon doe, ...

Less Mills Combat 60 Live Ultimate Warrior's Workout

Image
Combat 60 Live Ultimate Warrior's Workout is led by Rachel and Dan Cohen.  The workout is a live version of many of the moves that appear in the Combat 60 Extreme Cardio Fighter workout. There are seven instructors on stage. One person is modifying and there are a ton of people taking the class. The workout contains the following sections: Track 1 - Warm up - 3:49 Track 2 - Kicks - 4:54 Track 3 - Girls leads (Kickboxing)- 3:34 Track 4 - Boys leads (Boxing)- 5:15 Track 5 - Capoeria - 5:34 Track 6 - Boxing - 4:06 Track 7 - Kickboxing (Karate)- 5:18 Track 8 - Muay Thai - 5:34 Track 9 - Power Training - 5:23 Track 10 -Push ups and Abs - 2:42 Track 11 - Cool Down - 5:32 My favorite track is 8, but really I loved the workout from tracks 3 through 9. I thought track 5 was tough. It is lower body focus with a lot of lunges.  I also enjoyed the cool down stretch track. I felt the workout slow down for track 10 but I am sure that was by design.  Overall the worko...

Les Mills Combat 30 Live - Thoughts

Image
Combat 30 Live is led by Dan and Rachel.  This workout is just over 33 minutes in length, maybe a little less.  Dan spends quite a few seconds introducing the cast members on stage. The live workouts is filmed in Bristow, United Kingdom and there are tons of people taking the class. This workout features the subtitles and count down timers that the gym-style (or studio) workouts have and there is also a modifier. The workout is segmented by tracks.  They are: warm up upper body Round 1 lower body warm up (kicks) Round 2 boxing, kung fu, karate, kickboxing Round 3 boxing Round 4 kata and kicks Round 5 boxing There really is not a cool down.  Rachel suggest using the stretch DVD as your cool down. However this DVD does not come with the basic set. I like this workout.  It was a nice 30 minute cardio workout. There is a lot of starting and stopping as one music track ends and the next begins.  There is a music louder option and the music is prett...

Les Mills Combat HiiT Workouts - Thoughts

Image
Power HiiT 1 is just over 30 minutes in length.  It is a workout that is based on the principal of HiiT.  It is mostly a weight and strength workout but with a cardio aspect.  There are about 6 tracks including warm up and cool down.  A lot of the exercises repeat themselves. Warm up - 4:08 Run in place, forward and backward Squat, Ski Squat Side Shuffles Alternating Forward Lunges Inchworm Pushups Strength Phase - 8:40 Dead Rows Clean & Deadlift Clean & Press Power Press Power Phase 5:45 Sumo Jumps Cross Sumo Jumps Alt Plyometric Lunge Jumps Squat Press Body Weight Training 4:30 Burpee Jump Squat - 4 sets Core  Training - 4:00 Hover Planks Mountain Climbers Spider Pushups Cool Down Stretch - 2:45 Dan Cohen leads Power HiiT.  This workout does feature a modifier. Shock Plyo HiiT 2 clocks in at 28 & 1/2 minutes and it is lead by Rachael Newsham.   This workout features a lot of plyo moves that are r...

Les Mills Combat 60 Extreme Cardio Fighter - Thoughts

Image
Combat 60 Extreme Cardio Fighter clocks in at just over 53 minutes.  While Dan and Rachael are the predominate teachers, two of the other cast members steps up to teach part of a combo. This workout features practically all of the martial arts disciplines.  During one of the tracks, the trainer said "Welcome to the World of Kickboxing"  however there were no kicks in this segment at all.  I thought that odd. I felt Combat 60 had more cardio type moves than Combat 45 and Combat 30.  Simulated jump rope training, scissors, jump kicks and high knees show up on some of the tracks.  There is built in pacing in the workout.  Not only are there are lot of stop and starts as you move from segment to segment but the workout also slows a bit as you change your working lead.  Even so I felt the energy was high. Each segment features lots of repetition but it didn't bother me. I haven't mention music yet in any of the reviews.  For the mos...

Les Mills Combat 30 Kick Start and Combat 45 Power Kata

Image
Combat 30 Kick Start clocks in at 30 minutes.  There are seven class members with Dan and Rachael as the predominate leaders of the workouts. The workout features two countdown climber. One timer counts down the total workout time and the other timer counts down that particular segment. The workout also features subtitles that pop up and tell you what moves you are performing. There is a modifier who does less impact moves. The workout has two warm up tracks. The first track warms up the upper body and the second warms up the lower body.  I like the Kick Start workout.  I wouldn't say it was advance or it is not as intense as I thought it would be. As you move from segment to segment or track to track there is a lot of stopping. Most tracks end with and "ending pose".  The cast members are all wearing gloves. Combat 45 Power Kat a clocks in at just over 43 minutes.  This workout is similar to Kick Start. However Power Kata has more impact moves t...
