Amy Bento Ross Body Box - Thoughts

Amy Bento’s Body Box is a kickbox inspired interval workouts.  Along with a warm up and cool down, there are 4 kickbox combinations and 4 intervals.  The intervals consist of resistance type exercises.

Some of the interval exercises used dumbbells for resistance and others use your own body weight for resistance. After the end of each interval, Amy add a recovery move that you do for about 8 reps.

The intervals and recovery exercises are:
Interval 1:  horse jump into squat overhead press with dumbbells
Recovery 1:  parry block into cross punch
Interval 2:  air lunge into standing seated windshield holding dumbbells
Recovery 2:  alternating side block
Interval 3:  bridge crawls into push ups, leaning bridges from the kneeling position
Recovery 3:  Bow outs
Interval 4:  alternating low squats jump into push up, bridge punches
Recovery 4:  high cross alternating lunge back

The intervals/recovery are around 5 to 6 minute each.

The kickbox combos include both lower and upper body combat moves.  Amy adds variety by introducing non-typical kickbox moves such as the back fist, stick punch, and the cut kick.  Of course traditional moves such as jab, cross, hook,  uppercut, round house are woven into the choreography as well.

Amy teaches the combos in that layer approach often introducing a chunk of choreography, running through it a few times before moving on.  She will teach the combo on one side and then the other.

In combos 1 and 2, Amy went back and combined both sides before moving on.  She did not do this for combos 3 and 4.

I like the combos. The interval were challenging and somewhat awkward. There is a premix that is just the combos only. I have done this premix as well as the whole work and I think I prefer this workout with just the combos and not the intervals.  I did enjoy the recovery moves that appear at the end of the intervals.

The premixes are:
Short and Sweaty (50:37)
All Cardio (52:14) This is the one I did
All Intervals (37:39)
Shuffle It (1:13:00)

I like this workout. The music is good and gave the workout energy. Amy, Uchenna and Jill are a great team.  There was not a beginner modifier in this one.  Amy, in the past has had one.

4 stars for this workout.
