Cathe Gloved Up and Sweaty

Image
Gloved Up and Sweaty is one of Cathe's latest (2023) workouts.  It is a kickboxing inspired workout that clocks in at just over 39 minutes.  The workout includes four cardio kickboxing segments, four kickboxing combo segments and one kick combo.    The cardio segments include high intensity blast such as ice breakers, burpees, and jump knees. Equipment list includes Boxing Gloves. There is a new set for the 2023 workouts. I like it. I like the music selection as well.  You are really not working out to the music but it does have an energetic beat. There is a bonus jump rope workout. I have not done that yet. Love the music and vibe of this workout. Workout 2 is HiLo . In this workout, Kelly alternates HiLo cardio segments with weighted dumbbells segments. Cathe Rev'd Up Rumble - Thoughts

Image
Rev'd Up Rumble is one of only two "aerobic" workout in the LITE series.  Rev'd Up Rumble is a kickboxing routine that clocks in right at 41 minutes.  The warm up is just over 9 minutes, which I thought was a bit long because I almost forgot we were still in the warm up, until Cathe said "let's move on" 😉. During the warm up, Cathe takes you through the standard punches, jab, cross, hook, and uppercut. You do a series of squats and practice your kicks.  The main part of the workout consist of kick and punch drills, boxing combos, and cardio drills. There is a little bit of impact but as the name LITE implies, it is low impact. Towards the end, there is a brief cool down before Cathe takes you through the stretch. The DVD Menu Getting Started Play Chapters Basic Premixes (There are 10) Timesaver Premixes (There are 9) Scrambled Premixes (There are 5) Bonuses (Calorie Crush, 6 Pack ABS #1, Pyramid Pump Shoulder, Extended Stretch #1) Audio...

Jeanette Jenkins Cardio Kickboxing - Thoughts

Image
Cardio Kickboxing by Jeanette Jenkins is an 89 minute workout if you do it all.  It is mostly drill base workout with very few "combos". You do a series of kickboxing inspired moves on one side and then you repeat on the other. My main problem with the workout is that Jeannette can't count.  And she admits that or she admits to adding on.  The problem with that is she doesn't do the same amount of reps on both sides which I find irritating. Jeannette is not a chatter box - at least not in this workout.  There were times in the workout where it was just the music and not a lot of talk from her.  I found this refreshing. The workout is extremely welled chapter.  The DVD menu offers the following options: Play All with Music Play All with out Music (Jeannette's Instruction only) Introduction Warm Up - 10 min Power Punch - 7 min Side Kick City - 11 min Round House Power - 12 min Knockout Round - 11 min Ring The Bell Mat Work - 15 min Champion...

Blood Type Workout Type O Kick Boxing - Thoughts

Image
Type O Kick Boxing workout is part of the Blood Type Workout System.  The workouts in these series are design for a specific Blood Type. According to the back of the cover,  Type O's "benefit tremendously from brisk regular exercises that taxes the cardiovascular and muscular skeletal systems". This is the only workout that I bought from the system.  And I only got it because I like kickboxing workouts.  The music is up tempo techno. So the workout.  It is lead by Patricia Moreno. She is the only cast member.  The set is this cool and clean looking loft apartment - lots of white with colorful accents. The workout clocks in at around 65 minutes.  There is a warm up, 4 kickboxing segments using sand weights, a stability ball core segment, and cool down. Patricia names each of the kickboxing segments but I only caught the name of Segment 2 which is called "Excellence" and Segment 4 which was control "Self Control." Segment 1 might have been ca...

Susan Chung Rapid Fire 4 - Review

Image
Rapid Fire 4: Sweat is Susan Chung's fourth workout in the Power Optimizing Workouts Series. In Rapid Fire 4, Susan gives you a warm up, 3 kickboxing rounds, 3 boxing rounds, core-ab segment and a cool-down stretch segment. The workout is just over 72 minutes. In the warm-up, kickboxing, and boxing segments, Susan builds up each of these segments by starting with basic moves and then layering on additional moves until you get a combo.  You will do all of these segments  twice through; once leading with the right and once leading with the left. Susan starts off teaching the kickboxing rounds with  punches and then she adds the kicks.  At the end of each kickboxing round, there are leg intensifier drills. In the boxing combos, Susan started off teaching the moves half time for the first few reps but then moved into full tempo or at the beat of the music.; At the end of each boxing round, there are plyo drills. Speaking of the music, it is contemporary dance ...

Cathe Rockout Knockout - Review

Image
Rockout Knockout is one of the newly release Cathe 2013 workouts.  It is a kickboxing martial arts inspired workout. One thing I want to say is these new workouts come in some good high quality DVD cases.  Just something I notice right away. I think I had some other workout's flimsy case in my hand which is why I notice the difference. So, the DVD menu for Rockout Knockout is: Introduction Pla y Chapters   - Warm up   - Kickbox Cardio   - Cardio With Gloves   - Kickbox Combos   - Stretch   - Bonus Heavy Bag Premixes   - Rockout Knockout + Bonus Heavy Bag (65:02)   - Timesaver # 1 (38:33)   - Timesaver # 2 (36:16)   - Timesaver # 3 (43:33)   - Timesaver # 4 (43:15)   - Scrambled # 1 (55:17)   - Scrambled # 2 (65:02) Equipment Audio Settings   - Normal Mix   - Instrumental Music Mix   - Vocals Only Mix I did the Rockout Knockout + Bonus Heavy Bag premix and I thought th...

Kelly Coffey Meyers Total Body Kickbox - Thoughts

Image
Total Body Kickbox contains two 30 minute workouts.  Each workout is self contain in that they each have their own warm up and cool down.  Sometimes Kelly reuses or shares the warm up and cool down material  between the two workouts, but this is not the case with these workouts. The DVD Breakdown is as follows : Introduction Workout # 1 - Cardio Kickboxing Workout #2 - Kickbox Sculpting Combos Premixes Credits Music on/off option. Workout 1 is a fast pace, up tempo workout.  It is heavy on the punches but light on the kicking. During the warm up, Kelly previews several of the moves that appear in the combos.   There are seven combos but the combos are short.  Most of the combos are done on the left for a set of reps and then the right side or vice versa.  In a couple of the combos, Kelly alternates the sides.  I like this workout.  I just wished it had more kicking. Workout 2 is done at a slower pace and Kelly uses a set...

Cathe Xtrain Hard Strikes - Thought

Image
Hard Strikes is disc 8 in Cathe's newly release Xtrain series.  I actually think a more fitting name would be "Jack Long" or "Many Jacks" .  There are lots of jumping jacks in this workout and quite frankly I felt that the boxing part of the workout never really took off.  I was waiting for something to happen and it didn't happen. The main part of the workout is sectioned as follows: warm up / cardio boxing/ kickboxing (30:35) Boxing Conditioning Drills (11:58) -Overhead Dumbbell Shoulder Press -Bear Crawl Press -Bicep Curl Balance Challenge -Hammer Curl Balance Challenge -Plank Shoulder Snatch -Tricep Dip -Sit Up Jab & Strike -Sit Up  Speed Bag Arms -Sit Up/Push UP Combo Cool Down/Stretch (4:06) I mention the break down because the warm up is not a separate chapter point.  You can't chaptered pass the warm up and go straight into the cardio boxing.  I find this odd especially for a Cathe DVD. This is because of all the premixes s...

Less Mills Combat 60 Live Ultimate Warrior's Workout

Image
Combat 60 Live Ultimate Warrior's Workout is led by Rachel and Dan Cohen.  The workout is a live version of many of the moves that appear in the Combat 60 Extreme Cardio Fighter workout. There are seven instructors on stage. One person is modifying and there are a ton of people taking the class. The workout contains the following sections: Track 1 - Warm up - 3:49 Track 2 - Kicks - 4:54 Track 3 - Girls leads (Kickboxing)- 3:34 Track 4 - Boys leads (Boxing)- 5:15 Track 5 - Capoeria - 5:34 Track 6 - Boxing - 4:06 Track 7 - Kickboxing (Karate)- 5:18 Track 8 - Muay Thai - 5:34 Track 9 - Power Training - 5:23 Track 10 -Push ups and Abs - 2:42 Track 11 - Cool Down - 5:32 My favorite track is 8, but really I loved the workout from tracks 3 through 9. I thought track 5 was tough. It is lower body focus with a lot of lunges.  I also enjoyed the cool down stretch track. I felt the workout slow down for track 10 but I am sure that was by design.  Overall the worko...

Ilaria Powerstrike Kickboxing Vol 7 - Thoughts

Image
Powerstrike 7 is approximately 57 minutes in length and like other Powerstrike workouts it is characterized by lots of reps. It starts with a warm up and the warm up features Ilaria's trademark push ups to warm up the upper body.  You then move into a series of punches, next comes kicks and then combos leading left followed by combos leading right. And then the workout pretty much ends. Not much of a cool down. The punches start off with a double jab, slit, fast punch. Ilaria layers on  a hook, cross, upper-cut, cross, fast punches.  These punches are done on both the right and left lead. When I say there are lots of reps. I am not exaggerating. For instance, once series of kicks you are doing 100 on the left  and then 100 on the right. And Ilaria hits all the kicks - front push, snap, side kick, back kick, round house and crescent in and out.  At the conclusion of the kick section you are about 30 minutes into the workout. Then the real fun starts w...

Les Mills Combat 60 Extreme Cardio Fighter - Thoughts

Image
Combat 60 Extreme Cardio Fighter clocks in at just over 53 minutes.  While Dan and Rachael are the predominate teachers, two of the other cast members steps up to teach part of a combo. This workout features practically all of the martial arts disciplines.  During one of the tracks, the trainer said "Welcome to the World of Kickboxing"  however there were no kicks in this segment at all.  I thought that odd. I felt Combat 60 had more cardio type moves than Combat 45 and Combat 30.  Simulated jump rope training, scissors, jump kicks and high knees show up on some of the tracks.  There is built in pacing in the workout.  Not only are there are lot of stop and starts as you move from segment to segment but the workout also slows a bit as you change your working lead.  Even so I felt the energy was high. Each segment features lots of repetition but it didn't bother me. I haven't mention music yet in any of the reviews.  For the mos...

Les Mills Combat Basics

Image
Well I altered my rotation for December because my Les Mills Comba t system came in. The system consist of 8 workouts on 6 DVDs.  The first DVD is The Basics DVD. I really didn't consider this a workout. Dan Cohen and Rachael Newsham takes you through a series of disciplines and techniques that you will see thorough out the other DVDs. During this DVD they show you correct form and offer tips on how to perform each of the moves. The sections of this DVD are: Stances and Guards Boxing Karate Tae Kwon Do Capoeira Muay Thai (Kickboxing) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu The Basics DVD is about 30 minutes in length and it is a nice tutorial and introduction to the system but not really a workout.  3 stars

Guillermo Gomez Kickboxing Cardio Burn- Thoughts

Image
Kickboxing Cardio Burn is about 62 minutes in length. The warm up and cool down are about 5 minutes each. This workout is pretty good. To be honest, I was dreading it. I thought 62 minutes of triple jabs, knees smashes and vsteps , I am going to go crazy. Yes there are triple jabs and knee smashes but no vsteps . This workout has more variety than many of Guillermo's other workouts. Although it only features one combo that Guillermo builds up throughout the workout. So even though you think you are done with the combo, Guillermo keeps coming back to it - all the way until the cool down. There is a decent lower body kick section, that feature knee smash, front kick, crescent knee and then the roundhouse. There is a lot of repetition, mostly drill based. Double jacks, jump ropes. speed bags, criss -cross are some of the moves that show up between learning and doing the combos. The choreography is very basic and easy to follow. The soundtrack that Guillermo uses is full of ene...

Guillermo Gomez Kickboxing Cardio Power - Thoughts

Image
Kickboxing Cardio Power stars Guillermo Gomez and it is 42 minutes long. Guillermo mixes the standard punches - jab, cross, upper cut, hook, with power moves such as jumping jacks and jump rope. Side steps, V step, bob & weave, knee smash, and speed bag drills round out the workout. My biggest complaint about Guillermo's kickboxing workouts are that they are light on the kicking. This workout is no different. Towards the end of he workout he does do a series of front snap kicks, but that is about it as far as kicking goes. Super easy to follow. What you do on the right, you do on the left. Expect a lot of repetition. The DVD has a tutorial section. It also has Bonus Martial Arts Drill Section that feature three separate Martial Arts Drills. A mat is required for the drills. Guillermo provides great instruction during these drills. The set is very nice. A vast improvement over his other DVDs. The music fits the workout - up tempo with lots of energy. In the main workou...

Guillermo Gomez Rockin' Body - Thoughts

Image
Rockin' Body is about 65 minutes long if you do the whole workout. The menu chapters are: Warm Up - ~ 8 minutes Rockin Body Cardio - ~37 minutes Bonus Toning Abs - ~10 minutes Yoga Stretch & Relaxation - ~10 minutes The Rockin Body Cardio section contains 5 sets of moves strung together for a mini combo. The moves are taught in the layer approach with the right and then left lead. I was kind of annoyed with the combo because none of the moves featured any kicking at all. The only thing done with the legs was a knee smash - I believe that occurred in the 4th set of moves. At the very end of the workout, Guillermo puts in a set of drill based front kicks. The moves used in the combo are very basic. There are lots of reps. Starting with set of 8, then Guillermo cuts it in half and does sets of 4, then he cuts it it half again with sets of 2. It is not a bad workouts, there just isn't a lot of variety and not a lot of thinking to do. The bonus toning and abs section is do...

Guillermo Gomez Slammin' Body - Thoughts

Image
Slammin' Bod y is a 42 minute kickboxing workout. Although,I will say. there was a lot more boxing than kicking. The workout is divided into three sections. Interval Kickboxing - 24 minutes Cardio Bonus - 10 minutes Stretch & Relax - 8 minutes My favorite part was the Interval Kickboxing section. This segment featured 8 combos. Within each combo, you execute the moves on first the right and then left side. You first start off moving through the combo slowing for four reps. Guillermo then picks up the pace for a set of eight reps. Each combo routine is set up this way. The combos are fairly basic. I didn't find any too hard to grasp. The cardio bonus segments is really just 3 mini combos taught as one long combo. It was okay. The punches and kicks were just as basic or even more basic than the Interval Kickboxing section. Double jab to the front, step knee smash, three jabs into upper cut, V step transition are the moves used in this section. Stretch and Relax is a n...

Kettebell Kickboxing DVD 3 Longevity - Thoughts

Image
Kettlebell Kickboxing Longevity is DVD#3 in Dasha Libin's Scorcher Series.  This workout is approximately 43 minutes long and the pattern of the workout is very similar to the Power and Strength DVDs.  This workout starts out with a warm up and the first two minutes you are simulating a jump roping motion.  The warm up also includes alternating front and back kicks, oblique twist knee pulls and warm up exercises for the shoulder. The cool down contains bear hugs, diagonal arm extensions and static stretches for the lower and upper body. Dasha does not mirror cue (not a big deal with this type of workout) and she is still very chatty. The best thing about this work is there was only one set of squat thrusters/burpees and that was the very last exercise of the workout.  I actually thought we were going to make it through the whole workout without doing this overused moved. Another thing I notices about the workout is that when it comes to the plyo sets, Dasha doe...

Kettlebell Kickboxing DVD 2 Strength - Thoughts

Image
Kettlebell Kickboxing Strength clocks in at just over 39 minutes.  This workout is part of Dasha Libin Scorcher Series.  The workout mixes kettlebell moves with kickboxing moves. Strength is the second DVD of the series and it is characterized as Total Body Fat Loss. I thought  it was really similar to the first DVD in tempo and style although the exercises are different. There are two clocks. One counts down the overall workout and one counts down the time for each exercise. Dasha tells you the exercise and if you know it, she tells you to get going. If you don't know it, she demonstrates the moves for one or two reps before stopping to check on the cast members and offer tips. The cast member do not work in unison. Everyone is going at their own pace. With workouts like these, once I see the exercise, I will turn away from the TV and work at my own pace.   Love the length of the workout. There is music but it really doesn't enhance the workout.  3 s...
