Cathe Butts & Guts - Thoughts

Image
Butts & Guts is a 77 minute workout that focuses on the butt (lower body area) and guts (abdominal core area).  Not a great workout title name in my opinion. The workout is divided into a standing section, floor workout section and an abdominal section.  The floor work section is further divided into floor work using the stability ball and floor work using ankle weights. The standing section consist of essentially two rounds of doing the same group of exercises.  The reps are fairly high.  The standing leg portion is approximately 32 minutes in length.  The floor work is about 20 minutes. I did not do the abs segment but that segment clocks in at 14 minutes. The DVD also features four bonus segments which are: Stability Ball Abs Sit N Stands Leg Press Glutes Squeezes The DVD also contains the following premixes: Standing Glutes & Ab Timesaver 49.5 minutes Overall Legs 65 minutes Leg Blast 47.5 minutes Floor Work & Abs 5...

The FIRM Slim & Sculpt Stability Ball Workout - Thoughts

Image
So I was over at Collage Video and someone posted about revisiting old workouts. I have plenty of workouts that I would like to do again but never seem to get to. This is usually because there is something that I want to do more. I will start off adding these workouts to the rotation, but before I finalize it, these workouts usually get kick to the side. So in the spirit of revisiting old workouts, I am going to shove a few of them in - starting with The FIRM's Slim & Sculpt Stability Ball Workout . This is a 30 minute workout featuring Allie Del Rio as the lead. I believe this workout was part of the first or second group of "Gaiam" or "Pink" FIRM workouts. The workouts were not part of a "system" and they went straight to retail. What first caught my attention about this workout was the crappy set. Or crappy by FIRM standards. It look like the inside of a storage room or warehouse, very barren looking. So the workout. It starts with you s...

Cathe Stretch Max - Thoughts

Image
Cathe's Stretch Max is a DVD that contains three separate total body stretch workouts. The three workouts are : No equipment basic stretching - approximately 22 minutes On the ball stretching (Stability Ball) - approximately 19 minutes Band-Based Stretching (Resistance Band) - approximately 18 minutes Each segment also uses a floor mat. Cathe and crew are barefoot. The music is very mellow in each of the segments. It has a relaxing quiet tone to it. Nothing is rushed in any of the workouts. Most stretches are held for 15 to 20 seconds and the stretches are static. There is not any dynamic or ballistic stretching in this workout. Also there is no warm up to the stretches. Cathe starts the workout and you start stretching. On the back of the DVD cover, it does state that "You should be completely warmed up before participating in the segments." For me this is fine as anytime I do these Stretch workouts I am tacking them on to the end of a run. All three workouts g...

Tracie Long Functional Foundations - Thoughts

Image
"Welcome to the Revolution" Tracie states at the end of each of these workouts. The Revolution being a "different" way of training or the foray into functional fitness type training. Functional Foundations is a workout set that consist of two workouts: Core Strength and Core Cardio. They were made in 2004 and during this time it seemed like "functional fitness" was the new fitness buzz word of the day. I thought and I think I was hoping that functional fitness was a passing fad but no, it is still around today - not always called functional fitness but certainly with the elements of functional fitness. Well these two workouts are led by Tracie Long and definitely as far a functional fitness home DVDs workouts go, Tracie is one of the leaders, and she is superb in these workouts as well. Core Strength is a 50 minute workouts. It uses a stability ball, mat, and various weighted dumbbells. This is a strength, balance, and posture workout. There is almost n...

Tracie Long Endurance For Movement - Thoughts

Image
Endurance For Movement is a 60 minute total body workout and it is led by Tracie Long.  The DVD cover states "We Train For The Way You Live" and "..... we wipe away the 'old school' style of training".  I agree that this is not your traditional style of training or I will say it is not my traditional style of training. This workout is functional fitness at its best.  I say that even though I am not a fan of functional fitness but even after all these years of having this workout, I still find it a very unique workout and not one that I like doing but after I have done the workout I feel accomplished. There are many segments in this workout and as you move from segment to segment Tracie takes time to give a mini introduction to the segment.  I like this because it gives you time to set up for what is coming next. So the segments roughly break down as follows: warm up, core warm up, core, cardio, weight work, legs, upper body, core, cardio, push ups, lower ...
