Sunday Morning Run - August 29, 2010

Great day for running. 37:20:57.

5 Week Rotation Covering September 2010

Image
September's rotation is starting a little earlier and ending a little later. I am making it a 5 week rotation. Essentially, I have built the rotation around Amy Bento's two newest workouts. I am adding her two sculpting workouts All Pump Xtreme and Slo Mo Challenge. Sadly, I have had these two workouts almost two years and have yet to do them. Well September 2010, I will be doing them. This month I will be working out in parts or splits for my sculpting workouts. I am not a fan of working out this way. It seems to take up a lot of room in a rotation and a lot of time in general. However, for the next 5 weeks I am going to deviate from what I normally like to do; to get in workouts that I have been meaning to do. Rotation breakdown: Sunday - 3 mile Run Monday - Upper Body workouts - muscle groups will vary Tuesday - Amy Bento Step Wednesday - Legs (Mostly) I think one workout has abs and another workout has shoulders added. Thursday - Amy Bento Hi Lo Friday - Upper Body wo

Patrick Goudeau Hardwork Conditioning 24/7

Image
Hardwork Conditioning 24/7 is about 62 minutes workout if you do all the sections. It is a strength and cardio interval workout. Each circuit is about 6 minutes and it starts with 2 minutes of cardio and then 4 minutes of strength. Typically the 4 minutes of strength is broken down into 2 minutes on the right and then 2 minutes on the left or vice versa. Patrick and his cast use an 8 inch step in the vertical position, a mat is sometimes used and dumbbells. There is a lot of getting up and down onto the floor. There are one and even maybe two too many sets of burpees/squat thrust. A lot of the moves were multi-joint exercises. I did feel as if I was working hard. When you first put in the DVD, the menu is a bit confusing. I bought my copy of this workout from Collagevideo and the workout came with a sheet of scrap paper breaking down the menu options which are as follows: Wake Up Call (warm-up) - 6 minutes Monday (7 circuits) - 42 minutes Tuesday (3 circuits) - 18 minutes Wednes

Just When I thought I was safe .....

Image
from purchasing any more workouts for the rest of the year - minus the ones I already got on pre-order, (Cathe, Ilaria, and AmyB), I just found out that Jaana Kunitz of Core Rhythms has 4 new workouts out. Her program is called Xtreme Cardio Dance . So not a fan of the name, but I am a fan of Jaana and love her Core Rhythm set and her instruction style. The program comes with 4 workouts (3 plus a bonus). They are Latin Dance, Hip Hop, Disco and Sexy Sculpt. I am not sure how long the workout are, but you can get a mini preview of the content from the infomercial on the website. Target normally carries the Core Rhythm workouts so I am wondering if they will be carrying these. I am annoyed because the website doesn't tell you how much shipping is going to be without you putting in all of your information and hitting submit.

Sunday Morning Run - August 22, 2010

Well there was no run, not outdoors anyway. It was raining. I really need to start paying more attention to the weather because I was not dress to run in the rain. And I didn't realize it was raining until I opened the door to head out. Normally I would have just grabbed my poncho, but it was a muggy warm rain and I didn't want to get stuck carrying the poncho if it got too hot. So I troop down to the basement and got on my treadmill. I tend to walk more than run on my treadmill so it took me 39 minutes to do my 3.1 miles. Not a great outing.

The FIRM Calorie Explosion - Thoughts

Image
Okay. This was good and the title, Calorie Explosion , is very apt. I burned over 500 calories with this workout and I was even going all out as this was my first time through and I was learning the moves. That is not to say the moves are complicated because they are not. The moves are very basic. Alison cues well and you go through each set at least twice. The workout contains a warm up, 4 express workouts which are about 12 minutes each, and a cool down. What is cool about this, or I think so, is that you can do the whole workout which is about 55 minutes or you can select to do a particular section which includes the warm up and cool down for about at 18 to 20 minute workout. The DVD is chapter so it is easy to move around. You can tell someone put some thought into the functionality of this workout. The 4 different workouts are: Kick-Butt Athletic Drills - uses hand weights Explosive Power Moves - uses hand weights Cardio Kickboxing High Intensity Moves - uses hand weights On

Has The Economy Recovered?

If so, my wallet will need watching. Soooo many new workouts coming out this fall. For awhile there was real, almost severe drought. Instructors who said they were coming out with new workouts kept having their release dates pushed back. There had been no new workouts from perennial brands like The FIRM, Crunch, and CIAVideos. And the workouts that were coming out, you could tell that budgets weren't the same (i.e. a DVD disk just having the title of the workout, instead of a nice pretty picture of the instructor to match the cover). If the drought is over, I for one am very glad. I like having choices. I like the variety. I missed that agonizing feeling wondering how I am going to get all these workouts into a rotation. Okay, I really don't missed that part. But, I am excited about the new workouts coming out this fall. There are so many new workouts coming I am just going to list the workouts I have either pre-order or that I am planning on ordering. Already Pre-Order

Sunday Morning Run - August 15, 2010

Rainy day. It always seems that when I run in the rain, the rain comes down the hardest when I am further from my starting point. The rain did stop about 3/4 of the way through. The run became yukky at that point because there was no breeze, no coolness and I felt like I was running in dead air. Time 37:30:37. Followed the run by doing Cathe's Stretch Max Workout 1 .

Kelly Coffey Meyer LIFT Powersculpt - Thoughts

Image
Powersculpt is the second workout on Kelly Coffey-Meyer's 30 Minutes To Fitness LIFT workout. After the warm up, it is a non stop 30 minute sculpting workout using dumbbells. Kelly moves from exercise to exercise with precision and efficiency. In the introduction, she jokes (well she wasn't joking) "if you want a break, you will have to pause the remote" and you do. There might have been a brief reprieve as she went to change out weights but the changing out of weights was not done often and when it was done, it was quick. All of the moves were compound in nature and Kelly used the layer approach technique where she started with one move and then added another and sometimes another. So many of the exercises had up to 3 components. Kelly would do an exercise and then she would move on to what she called a "transition move" and then she would repeat the original exercise. That was the pattern for the whole workout. So some exercises you do twice and some only

Kelly Coffey Meyer Circuit Burn - Thoughts

Image
Somewhere, probably in a video, I heard Kelly say "be a participant not a spectator". This quote comes to mind because when I got this workout and was previewing it, I did not think I was going to like it as much as I thought I would when I bought it. After doing the workout - 30 Minutes to Fitness Circuit Burn, I love it. The workout comes with two 30 minute workouts. And I am happy to report they are very close to being 30 minutes - maybe 2 or 3 minute past. I mentioned this because in Kelly's last group of workouts, a couple of the workouts well exceeded the 30 minute time frame. It is not a big deal in and of itself - just a pet peeve of mine - if you are going to mention time in the title, the workout should closely reflect that time. And these do, so back to the workouts. I did both workouts back to back and as I move forward, I will most likely continue to do both (time permitting) because both workouts really do compliment each other and it makes

Sunday Morning Run - August 8, 2010

Oh it was a gorgeous morning for running. Practically no humidity at all. I was up and out of the house at 7am. It felt good to be working out after taking a full week off. I did develop a crap towards the end but I didn't loose much time as a result of being off for a week. 37:37:99 was my time. I followed the run with a stretch workout: the FIRM's Yoga Express 15 minute workout led by Alison Davis.

Sick and a revised August 2010 Rotation

Image
Okay I have been sick. I came down with a cold. The thing with me is I never know whether or not it is my sinuses acting up or is it an actual cold until I am well into the cold. This time it turn out to be a cold, but the cold is almost gone. Now all that remains is a lack of energy, a mild headache and an extremely annoying cough. The thing about getting sick is that it always wreaks havoc on my workout rotation. So what you see to the left is a revised workout rotation. I decided to take the rest of the week off and give myself plenty of rest. As a result, I had to shift some workouts out. The basic format is the same and Saturday, I will be using that day to learn Stepping Up.

Cathe 2010 Roadtrip - What a Jam Packed Weekend

Image
And I am exhausted but I had a fabulous time. Cathe, Chris, and Cathe.com are absolutely wonderful host. The classes were full of energy, the food was plentiful and divine. Cathe had a great sale on Cathe T-Shirts. $3 for one or 2 for $5. Loved the addition of the Spinning class and the Zumba class and of course the 15 minutes of fame is always a highlight. Cathe announced that The Workout Blender is coming. It is DVD meets the Download. Apparently, there will be over a million combinations that you will be able to come up with to mix your own workouts from all of the Cathe workout collection. Cathe also announced ---- Drum Roll Please........ That she will be filming 4 new workouts in a few short weeks. - I don't know what a few short weeks mean but I think this year. The upcoming workouts that were announced are: Intensity: Think IMAX + Bootcamp + Plyo + HiiT all in one workout. High Reps: A modern Day Version of Power Hour Lower Body Blast: This will be based on a class that Ca
