April 2021 - Workouts - What I Did

Image
April 2021 My rotation for April consisted of treadmill, Cathe, The FIRM, Zumba and one of Jessica Smith's new workout. I have not been particularly motivated to complete an actual rotation. So for April, I decided to do a plan but not hold myself to the plan if I felt like doing something else. Originally, for April I had all Cathe workouts schedule, but later decided to switch it up. The only thing that I am committed to is to do at least 30 minutes of any workout  six days a week. Most workouts that I schedule are between 30 and 40 minutes.  The only real exception was Sunday treadmill runs.

April 2020 Monthly Rotation

Image
April 2020 This month it is Tracie and Jessica and little bit of Zumba.  I am upping my Sunday treadmill runs to 2.5 miles. On the 27th and 28th of the month, I will be doing Jessica Total Body Strength workouts. The other Jessica workouts will be 30 minute Walk On workouts. The two Zumba workouts are also 30 minute workouts.

Strong By Zumba 20 Min Demo - Thoughts

Image
Bonus 20 Minute Strong By Zumba workout is a bonus workout included on the Strong by Zumba DVD.  Strong by Zumba is  High-Intensity Cardio & Tone workout that is set (choreograph) to the beat of the music.  The instructor is Ai Lee Syarief. The 20-Minute Demo is just a brief version of the 60-minute class. It includes its own warm up and cool down. The warm up was about 2 minutes and 15 seconds in length and the cool down is around 3 minutes. The 20-Minute Demo workout is chaptered. It also contains the Fired Up and Push Your Limits quadrants. Between the quadrants you get a recovery period. Each segments features two additional cast members but as the workout progresses, the cast members change in and out. There is NOT a modifier for the bonus workout. The moves are similar to the moves in the longer version of the workout.  I like the shorter version just a little bit better than the longer version. Oh I forgot to mentioned when I reviewed the 60 m...

Strong by Zumba - Thoughts

Image
Zumba Strong is a 60-minute high-intensity cardio and toning workout. The toning exercises are bodyweight only - no equipment is used. The entire workout is set to the beat of the music. Often the instructor, Ai Lee Syarief will introduce you to a move at a slower tempo and then she increases the pace at which you perform the move. You are doing all moves at least twice through per lead. There is a warm up and cool down. Between the warm up and cool down the workout is broken up into four quadrants. The quadrants are: Ignite Fire Up Push Your Limits Floor Play Within each quadrant, there are tracks, Each track is a song.  Prior to the start of a track, subtitle bar appears on the left to tell you what exercises you will be performing for that track. Between each quadrant, there is a mini recharge segment that serves as your recovery.  Along with bodyweight moves, many of the moves performed are inspired by mixed martial arts.  The choreography i...

Target and Tone contains two 35 minute workouts. The DVD offers the Verbal Cues On and Verbal Cues Off options.  Verbal cuing is standard cuing. In other wise it is not narrated. The first workout is Shoulders/Back and it is led by Loretta.  Along with Loretta there are two other participants.  Loretta takes you through a series of tracks focusing on shoulder and back moves such as rows, rear flys, shoulder press, upright rows, and front raise.  Most of the toning is incorporated in the dance.  There were two tracks that contain some isolated exercises for the back in the form of rows and rear flys. The workout uses toning sticks and the sticks are used in all the tracks except for first, second, and last. Shoulder/Back Song Tracks 1.    Despierta 2.    Status Dance 3.    Ay Que Yo La Enamore 4.    Chica Practica 5.    Pasito A Paso 6.    Tanto 7.    Sa...

Zumba 101 Can't Dance? - Thoughts

Image
Zumba 101 Can't Dance stars Beto Perez as  the lead instructor.  Along with Beto, there is Julianna Sartori and Priscilla Sartori who are the background exercises. This DVD contains two programs. The first program is Step By Step.  In this workout Beto takes you through four core dances of Zumba. The dances are Merengue, Reggaeton, Cumbia and Salsa.  Beto breaks down each of these dances teaching them each to a song. After Beto demonstrates the four dances, he takes you through a mini workout that is about 15 minutes long.   Step By Step breaks out as follows: Fiesta - Merengue Lo Que Ellas Quieren - Reggaeton Nena - Cumbia Pachanga - Salsa Tiempo De Bailar - Merengue Pop Baila Mi Soca - Soca Pam Pam - Merengue Baracundera - Cooldown The second program is Dance, Dance, Dance. The order of the workout is very similar to the Zumba 101 Step by Step Class. The only difference in the songs is that Beto adds a warm up song:  24 hours. When th...

Zumba Latin Burst - Thoughts

Image
Zumba Latin Burst is a cardio interval workout that features the Zumba cardio burst.  Latin Burst features the same lead (Steve Boedt) and cast members as Global Burst. Also Latin Burst has the same warm up and cool down as Global Burst. Latin Burst workout is very similar to the Global Burst workout with the difference being the tunes in Latin Burst are mostly from the Latin music genre. So there is Salsa, Reggaeton, Samba and Merengue. Steve lets you know that the burst is coming by displaying superman arms.  The burst last probably for about 20 to 30 seconds. The burst are set to the music so the length of time of each burst is different and also the amount of rest between the burst is different.  The Tunes in Latin Burst are: Bass Go Boom Tiene Swing  Dance, Go Ese Hombre Ta Ciego Sube La Temperatura Comienza A Bailar Zumba Lluvia I thought this was a good time efficient workout. 3 & 3/4 stars

Zumba Global Burst - Thoughts

Image
Zumba Global Burst Cardio Interval workout features Steve Boedt as the lead.  The workout includes two additional cast mates, one of which shows lower intensity modifications. Global Burst features music from different international beats. During each song, Steve adds in cardio burst  to add intensity and increase the heart rate. You know the burst are coming by the Super Man arms.  Essentially cardio burst are moves that include some type of jumping , hopping or running or are using your arms full out with a large range of motion.  The cardio burst last for about 30 seconds. I did feel some of the cardio burst a bit repetitive especially because the same burst will repeat throughout a tune. The back of the DVD case said the workout is 29 minutes plus an optional warm up which is just under 4 minutes and an optional cool down which is just over 4 minutes. However the actual DVD menu doesn't allow you to select just the workout but you can chapter pass the w...

Zumba Step It Up - Thoughts

Image
Zumba Step It UP High-Intensity Training uses the Zumba Rizer. It is led by Marcie Benavides and it is 34 minutes in length. Joining Marcie, is Nick and Ricardo.  Nick is the modifier.  He shows less intense moves throughout the workout. The segments are : Party (Everybody Dance) No Te Soporto (Merenegue) Hasta Amanecer (Cumbia) Pablito Robafaldas (Salsa) Alegria Esta No Ar (Calyspo-Samba) Rockin With the Best (Reggaton) Marcha Back In Action Bailando Te Quiero Ver I liked this workout well enough.  I felt it was more athletic base than dance based. The only thing that annoyed me was the cuing (combining the visual with voice over).  There were more than a few times when Marcie called  the move late  None of the moves were hard or moves I hadn't seen before but I was tripping all over the place. We would do a straddle with a side kick or a side tap step but she wouldn't call it until after the first rep. Other than that annoyance, it's a g...

Zumba Max - Thoughts

Image
Zumba Max Beto's Maximum Calorie Burn is a 60 minute workout.  Beto states that this is his "most intense class". And I agree.  It contains super high energy throughout all the tracks and the only real break you got is when you moved from track to track.  The track switching transition felt shorter to me in this workout than in previous Zumba workouts. With the exception of track two, Beto leads the entire workout. The second track is lead by the Zumba Twins (Alicia and Tonya). The DVD comes with an English and Spanish option.  It also comes with verbal cuing on and off option.  The "on" option is voice-over. Throughout the workout, the class contracts and expands as members come in and out during the start of each track. The Tracks: I Wanna Jump Bounce (I Like It When You Do) Ta' Encedio Vamos Pa' La Pista La Cumbia Caliente DJ Dale Play Violint Marioneta Rock & Roll North America Empezo El Show Uno Sabe Bien Indian Moonshine...

Zumba Incredible Results 30 Minute Burn + Amazing Abs - Thoughts

Image
The last group of workouts in the Zumba Incredible Results System are 30 Minute Burn and Amazing Abs. 30 Minute Burn features Gina Grant. Gina leads you through the warm up.  As the workout moves on, various guest instructors join Gina on stage for a track segment.  During the last track the guest instructors join Gina on stage for the cool down. You do not get the option for verbal cuing with this workout.  It is only visual cuing. The set looks to be a warehouse and there are about a 100 people working out with Gina and the guest instructors.  You can see people sitting in chairs and standing on the upper levels just watching the filming of the workout. The tracks are: Dale Al 100 Pegao Ven Y Baila Tu Carinito Pa' Que Lo Bailen Bien Mueve La Cadera (2013 Remix) Quiero Bailar Contigo I enjoyed 30 Minute Burn.  3 & 3/4 stars Amazing Abs is lead by Beto Perez and it uses a chair for the workout.  Beto calls this his Sentao workout....
