Sahra Esmonde-White Essentrics Body Sculpting Series - Review

Image
Essentrics Body Sculpting Series is lead by Sahra Esmode-White.  There are three workouts on one DVD.  Sahra states that each workout is a total body workout but each workout has a particular emphasis. The workouts are: Ultimate Leg Sculptor Ab Flattening & Waist Shaping Arm Blast & Posture Boost Ultimate Leg Sculptor workout includes standing and mat work. After the warm up, Sahra takes you through a series of Essentric trademark exercises which included lunge reaches (simulated elastic pull downs) and figure 8s. A plies series follow. This puts you at the 9 minute mark of the workout. You then move to the floor for a series of table top leg exercises.  Donkey kicks, leg lifts, hamstring curls, leg pumps and side kicks are the exercises.  There is also lying side leg work. In this section, Sahra alternates working the outer and inner thigh and glute area using traditional Essentrics lengthening exercises.  The workout concludes with seated ...

Cathe FitSplit Boxing BootCamp and Legs & Glutes - Thoughts

Image
Boxing Bootcamp and Legs & Glutes are two workouts that come with Cathe's FitSplit series. The two workouts can be performed separately or as one workout.  I did each of the workout separately.          Boxing BootCamp   consists of a lengthy warm up, three kickboxing combos and a brief cool down.   In the combos, you are doing traditional kickboxing moves (jabs, cross, hooks, uppers, knees, and a bit of kicking). There are also Muay Thai moves in the form of elbow strikes.  Expect lots of impact as there is quite a bit of jumping. Cathe uses kickboxing gloves.  The music is set to high tempo beat. Each of the combos flow pretty well together and the workout moves quickly, it was over before I knew it. Legs & Glutes is your lower body focused workout.  The workout moves quickly from exercise to exercise and the rest are short.  The workout uses a high step, a disc or glide device, a mat,...

Cathe To The Mat: Legs & Glutes - Review

Image
To the Mat is part of Cathe's ICE series. The ICE series are workouts that are geared towards the intermediate exercises. To the Mat clocks in just over 49 minutes.  It is a lower body core workout that is done completely on the floor. Even the warm up is floor base (performed seated).  I never care for these types of warm up because I never feel truly warm up.  I did this workout in the evening.  Had I did this workout in the morning then the warm would not have been enough. Lots of reps.  Most of the exercises you are performing 4, 6, or 8 sets of 8 in the rep count. Cathe does offer some variations as she does the exercises. For instance you might do the first four sets with the foot pointed followed by another four sets with the foot flex. Besides the tons of reps on some of the exercises I like the workout.  Cathe uses the stability part is the first part of the workout. In the second part she uses the band and loop and in the last part you u...

21 Day Fix Flat Abs Fix & Barre Legs - Thoughts

Image
21 Day Fix targeted workouts DVD consist of two workouts, one for the abs and one for the legs. Both are 30 minutes workouts and feature a modifier. These workouts are part of the Ultimate Upgrade Package. Flat Abs Fix is the targeted AB workout.  This workout does not contain a warm up or cool down.  After a brief introduction, Autumn jumps right in.  You are working the abs from all angles - standing, prone, supine, lying side and seated. There are twelve exercises.  Autumn does two exercises and then she repeats them before moving on to the next two.  In several of the exercises, you start the exercise on one side working for 30 seconds before switching to the other side for the last 30 seconds.  The rest are between 16 and 27 seconds so the rest vary. The equipment used is a single dumbbell and a mat. Barre Legs is the second targeted workouts.  This workout uses the same warm up as many of the other 21 Day Fix workout.  This workout...

Cathe Lift It HiiT It Legs - Review

Image
Lift It HiiT It Legs is a 40 minute lower body focused workout. Cathe combines strength with cardio.   Each set starts with a heavy weight leg exercise and then this is followed by an explosive cardio exercise.  The cardio exercise mimics the strength exercise. I really like this workout. There are 24 exercises and I thought the combination of strength and cardio exercises complimented each other and flowed really well until we got to the Woodchop Side lunge exercise. This exercise seemed out of place to me in this workout. This was your strength exercise but the tempo was fast.  The following cardio exercise was  Weighted Explosive Side Lunges.  It felt as if there were two cardio exercises back to back instead of a strength and cardio. The workout got back on track with the remaining exercises.  There are eight premixes in the workout - ranging from 22 minutes to 53 minutes. The only equipment used are dumbbells. 4 stars

Tony Horton P90X Legs & Back - Review

Image
This is my second week of P90X workouts and it starts with disc 5, Legs & Back . There are 22 exercises.  For every two leg exercises, there is one back exercise. So the pattern is - do two legs and then 1 back exercise. There are a variety of legs exercises but all the back exercises are pull up/chin up exercises. There is a cardio warm up followed by a stretch.  Then you move into the 22 exercises, each of which has a time associated with it. Sometimes you are doing as many reps as you can and at other times, Tony gives you an exact rep number he wants you to perform.  A stretch cool down concludes the workout. While I was sore after this workout and felt the challenge, I really didn't care for a lot of the exercises in this workout. The workout clocks in at around 59 minutes. Equipment used:  pull up bar,  bands, weights. 2 & 3/4 stars

PIYO Strength DVD - Review

Image
PIYO Strength DVD.  This DVD is part of the deluxe package. Along with the DVD you get a set of discs. The DVD contains two workouts: - Full Body Blast - Strong Legs Full Body Blast clocks in at 29:13 and it has the following segments: warm up dynamic & static legs core & more supine arms & abs hamstrings & cool down Working with the discs was challenging.  It definitely took the workouts up a notch for me.  These were the workouts that could have been called "Sweat" and/or "Drench".  Even though I didn't feel as if I were doing a cardio workout, I definitely felt a cardio effect from the workout. Strong Legs clocks in at 25:09.  I did this workout right after the Full Body Blast workout and I probably  should not have done that because I got annoyed that many of the moves/exercises in Strong Legs, I had just done in Full Body Blast. I wanted more variety or something different for the Strong Leg workouts. Plus this wor...

Cathe CTX Leaner Legs - Review

Image
Leaner Legs is part of Cathe's Cross Train Xpress series done years ago. It is  51 minute lower body workout. It is a pretty no-nonsense workout. The format of the workout is circuit like but just for the lower body. For instance instead of doing sets of the same exercise back to back.  She will do a set for the hamstrings, then the quads, then the calves before circling back to the hamstrings. The only time where you did sets back to back is when you were working one leg and then the other. This is a standing leg workout.  The only time you hit the floor was when you did a set for the abdominals. I like this one. I thought I did this workout before but I didn't find a review for it.  4 stars

Cathe Xtrain Cardio Leg Blast

Image
Cardio Leg Blast is disc 6 in Cathe' s Xtrain series. It is 56 minutes in length. This workout alternates cardio power leg exercises with strength leg exercises.  There are 12 rounds and you are pretty much moving from exercise to exercise.  You get brief rests as Cathe explains what is coming up next and as you are setting up for the next exercise by collecting or putting away your equipment. Dumbbells, Step with Three Risers, Dixie Cup and Firewalker Loop are the equipment used in this workout. There is not a countdown climber (which would have be nice in the Cardio section) but this workout does have the subtitles that tell you the exercise you are doing. The DVD has 20 premixes and four bonus workouts. I like this workout better than Disc 5 Legs 3 & 1/2 stars

Cathe Xtrain Legs - Thoughts

Image
Xtrain Legs is approximately 52 minutes in length.  The main part of the workout contains standing, Ball & Chair, and the floor sections. However if you look at the order they are chaptered, the Bonus Barre sections comes after the Standing Leg sections.  The Bonus Barre section is not part of the main workout.  Cathe uses a chair as her barre. I notice that this workout contain some exercises that also appeared in Super Cuts and in Hard Strikes. There's lots of equipment required for this workout.  Dumbbells, Stability Ball, Slide N Glide Discs, Dixie Cups, Firewalker Loop, a mat and a chair. The DVD contains three Bonus workouts (Bonus Rear Delts, Bonus Barre, 100 Rep Challenge Hip Thrust) and 11 Pre-mixes. I did not like the soundtrack. It was mostly background music and much of it sounded blah. This is not my favorite Cathe Leg workout but it is still a decent. 3 stars
