Sasha Price & Gina Harney Solibeat - Thoughts

Solibeat is a high intensity 55-minute dance workout.  The instructors for this workout are Sasha Price and Gina Harvey.  The dance workout  is set to live drum beats that really support the energy and intensity of the workout.

The DVD offers the following menu options:
  • Dance
  • Learn How
  • Play All
Each of the Dance and Learn How segments are broken down into 8 segments. The segments are:
  1. Warm Up
  2. Samba Reggae
  3. Bhangra
  4. Djole
  5. Samba Dromme
  6. Merengue
  7. Kuku
  8. Belly Dance Cool Down
Sasha and Gina alternate teaching each of the Learn How segments.   The Learn How segments are between 2 and 4 minutes.  During the dance segments, Gina and Sasha alternate leading a segment. In the dance segments, three other cast member join Gina and Sasha and they are also joined by the drummers.

During the dance segments, you really cannot hear either Gina or Sasha cue because the drums drowned them out, so you are mostly relying on their visual cuing.  I did not do the Learn How segment.  The dance moves repeat themselves so after the first two passes I was able to picked up the moves.  Each of the dances is at least 7 minutes.  In the Kuku dance, each of the five dancers does a bit a free styling. This was the only part of the workout I did not like. It was really about the drummer and there was a lot of clapping in place and dancing in a circle.
The warm up and cool down are between 5 and 6 minutes each.

Overall I really like this workout and the DVD. The DVD is chapter so you can just choose a particular group of dances.  The music is great and the energy is high.  Now, there is a lot of repetition. Within each dance you are repeating the sequences quite a few times. But, really enjoyed this workout.

4 & 1/4 stars
