Cathe Xtrain Burn Sets

Image
Burnsets is disc 3 in Cathe Xtrain Series. It consist of two upper body workouts.  Both workouts follow the same pattern but work different upper body parts. The first workout listed is Chest, Back, & Shoulders.  This is a 51 minute workout. The second workout is Bi's & Tri's .  This workout is 37 minutes in length. For each body part you are doing four exercises.   The first three of the exercises are done for three sets.  In the first two sets, you are lifting for 10 reps.  In the last set, you are to lift to failure.  The four exercise (Cathe calls it the Burn Set) is only for one set, but the reps vary according to the exercise.  The resistance tubing is used in several of the Burn Set exercises. The Burn Set exercises appears as Bonus Workouts on several of the other disc in the series.  There is only one Bonus workout on this DVD and it is the Core#1 workout.  The DVD has premixes but not one of premixes c...

Cathe Xtrain Cardio Leg Blast

Image
Cardio Leg Blast is disc 6 in Cathe' s Xtrain series. It is 56 minutes in length. This workout alternates cardio power leg exercises with strength leg exercises.  There are 12 rounds and you are pretty much moving from exercise to exercise.  You get brief rests as Cathe explains what is coming up next and as you are setting up for the next exercise by collecting or putting away your equipment. Dumbbells, Step with Three Risers, Dixie Cup and Firewalker Loop are the equipment used in this workout. There is not a countdown climber (which would have be nice in the Cardio section) but this workout does have the subtitles that tell you the exercise you are doing. The DVD has 20 premixes and four bonus workouts. I like this workout better than Disc 5 Legs 3 & 1/2 stars

Cathe Xtrain Tabatacise

Image
Disc 9 in Cathe's Xtrain series is Tabatacise .  It is approximately 45 minutes in length and it features 5 Tabata plus a warm up and cool down. This workout was challenging.  I was out of breath quite often.  I actually did the workout in two part. I did Tabatas 1-3 in the morning and Tabatas 4-5 in the evening.  There is a countdown clock/timer.  Although sometimes it is not always in sync with Cathe.  You are doing each exercise for 20 seconds and you rest for 10 seconds.  On some exercises the 20 seconds took forever and the 10 seconds flew by. Each Tabata features 4 exercises that you repeat twice.  This was followed by a step "recovery/blast" section. The exercises in Tabata One are: Plie Jacks Hands In Hips Frog Jumps Forward Back & Turn Right Three Jacks & One Tuck Jump Frog Jumps Forward Back & Turn Left The exercises in Tabata Two are: Squat Digs Air Jacks Sprint Shooters On Right Lead Sprint Shooters On Le...

Cathe Xtrain Bi's & Tri's

Image
Xtrain Bi's & Tri' s is disc two in Cathe Xtrain Series.  It features nine round alternating bicep exercise with a tricep exercise. Along with dumbbells, a stability ball, mat,and medium resistance tubing in used. Most of the exercises are performed for 16 reps.  Cathe states that "your weight should be heavy enough so that by the time you reach the 16 rep it should be difficult. However, if you can't get at least 8 reps, your weight is too heavy." Along with Cathe, there are five other cast members, two of which are men. There are four bonus workouts and 14 premix workouts on the DVD. The workout is almost 46 minutes in length and it is a solid bicep/tricep workout. 3 & 1/4 stars.

Cathe Xtrain Legs - Thoughts

Image
Xtrain Legs is approximately 52 minutes in length.  The main part of the workout contains standing, Ball & Chair, and the floor sections. However if you look at the order they are chaptered, the Bonus Barre sections comes after the Standing Leg sections.  The Bonus Barre section is not part of the main workout.  Cathe uses a chair as her barre. I notice that this workout contain some exercises that also appeared in Super Cuts and in Hard Strikes. There's lots of equipment required for this workout.  Dumbbells, Stability Ball, Slide N Glide Discs, Dixie Cups, Firewalker Loop, a mat and a chair. The DVD contains three Bonus workouts (Bonus Rear Delts, Bonus Barre, 100 Rep Challenge Hip Thrust) and 11 Pre-mixes. I did not like the soundtrack. It was mostly background music and much of it sounded blah. This is not my favorite Cathe Leg workout but it is still a decent. 3 stars

Cathe Xtrain Hard Strikes - Thought

Image
Hard Strikes is disc 8 in Cathe's newly release Xtrain series.  I actually think a more fitting name would be "Jack Long" or "Many Jacks" .  There are lots of jumping jacks in this workout and quite frankly I felt that the boxing part of the workout never really took off.  I was waiting for something to happen and it didn't happen. The main part of the workout is sectioned as follows: warm up / cardio boxing/ kickboxing (30:35) Boxing Conditioning Drills (11:58) -Overhead Dumbbell Shoulder Press -Bear Crawl Press -Bicep Curl Balance Challenge -Hammer Curl Balance Challenge -Plank Shoulder Snatch -Tricep Dip -Sit Up Jab & Strike -Sit Up  Speed Bag Arms -Sit Up/Push UP Combo Cool Down/Stretch (4:06) I mention the break down because the warm up is not a separate chapter point.  You can't chaptered pass the warm up and go straight into the cardio boxing.  I find this odd especially for a Cathe DVD. This is because of all the premixes s...

Cathe Xtrain Chest, Back, & Shoulders - Thoughts

Image
Chest, Back, & Shoulders is disc 1 in the Xtrain series.  I honestly don't know the purpose of numbering the disc especially when you can purchase the workouts individually.  Anyhow, this workout clocks in at just above 51 minutes. The workout starts with a warm up. The first 1/2 of the warm up, Cathe takes you through a series of dynamic moves that were upper body focus.  The second 1/2 of the warm up, you pick up a set up light weights and then you go through a series of exercises for the upper body. So there are eight rounds.  In each round you start with a Chest exercise, this is followed with a Back exercise and then lastly a Shoulder exercise.  Then you repeat this sequence for the remaining rounds however, each of the following rounds you are doing a different exercise. or sometimes it is the same exercise with a variation such as on a incline or with tubing instead of dumbbells. Equipment used:   Stability Ball, Mat, Dumbbells, and Resista...

Cathe Xtrain Supercuts - Thoughts

Image
Super Cuts is disc 4 in Cathe's Xtrain series of workouts. It is almost 46 minutes in length and features a variety of equipment and exercises. The best part of the workout is that you really don't repeat an exercise.    However, the are some moves (mostly for the lower body) that you will do the exercise leading with one leg and then switch to the other. Tons of equipment:  Dumbbells, Slide N Glide Discs, Dixie Cups, Firewalker loop, and resistance tubing.  I a not a fan with working out with the tubing so some of those exercises I replaced with dumbbells. The workout really moves from one exercise to the next.  There are times when Cathe will take a bit of time to set up the next exercise by "demo-ing" the upcoming exercise.  For the most part, though, the exercises are back to back. I love the set.  The outside scenery is urban picturesque.    The music is okay, lots of vocals. gave the feeling that you were working ou...
