Weight Watchers Weekly

"Have a Great Trip! How to work the Plan on Vacation." was this week's topic. We discuss two alternatives you can adopt to ensure that your success will not be derailed. First alternative is to simply try to maintain where you are at when your vacation begins and the second alternative is to keep on loosing. My leader did throw out an interesting stat. He stated that the "average person gains 8 lbs while on vacation". Besides the fee for the 17 weeks, I have spent over $100 on Weight Watchers products much of which I will review in the coming weeks and as I get more familiar with them.

The Firm Kick It Into Gear - Thoughts

Image
Kick it Into Gear is a 15 minute bonus workout that comes on the Get Chisel'd DVD. It features Rebekah Sturkie and it boast that you can burn 175 calories in 15 minutes. I actually clock the workout at 14:25. What surprised me about the workout was how long the warm-up was. The warm-up is almost 5 minutes. It is a good warm-up but I thought it was too long for a 15 minute workout and I started to doubt whether or not I was actually going to burn 175calories. The warm-up also included a series of push up moves that Rebekah alternates with plank core moves. I think you end up doing 16 push ups total. After the push ups, you move into the workout - which starts with a mini kickbox routine. Then comes a series of calf pumps into plyo jumps. This is followed by squat pulses into kicks. Next comes your run or skip into power high knees and then toe taps with speed bag arms. And then of course, comes the squat thrust or burpees. To be honest, I was surprised that they didn't show up...

Weight Watchers At Work - The PointsPlus Program

Image
I started Weight Watchers at Work yesterday, but I am making today my official start day. And while I did my best to "ou t train a bad diet" I had to admit to myself that it (my diet) just was not working and that it was limiting any progress I was making with my workouts. One week I would do good and then one, maybe two weeks I would do bad - blah, blah, blah - etc, etc, etc. Now I am signed up for a 17 week program that meets on Wednesdays at work. The cost for 17 weeks is $186 and it comes with 19 weeks of "free" etools. I get 31 points a day. I get 49 additional points for the week. I get to earned up to 42 activity points a week. I can swap the activity points for food points. Don't know if I will do that or not. What I already like about the program is that all fruit has a zero pointsplus value. I love fruit. So that is good. Looking ahead, I do think it might become cumbersome if not time-consuming calculating the point values of recipes and restaurant f...

Janis Saffell Kickbox Strike Zone - Thoughts

Image
Janis Saffell's Kickbox Strike Zone is approximately 60 minutes in length. It contains the following sections: Warm Up> Kickbox Aerobics Target Drills Kickbox Sculpt Tai Chi Stretch The Kickbox Aerobics sections contains mini kickbox routines that feature both high and low impact moves. The Target Drills section features partner work and the use of a paddle. Janis has one person holding the paddle in a lunge warrior position. This is to make sure the paddle is held securely and the other person is either punching or kicking the paddle. She then has the two people switch positions. Non-partner modifications are shown. The Kickbox Sculpt section features a series of lunges, squats and the various kickbox kicks. The various punches are also worked in this section. Janis uses weighted gloves in both this section and the Kickbox Aerobics section. Kickbox Strikezone is another one of those workouts that was previously released on VHS and then later put on DVD. So the set is a bit da...

Janis Saffell Kick-IT Thoughts

Image
Kick-IT ! contains two 30 minute kickboxing workouts and both are led by Janis Saffell. While the DVD advertises two workouts, I did them as one workout. The first workout is called Hi/Low Kickbox Aerobics . In this workout Janis takes you through 3 mini (and I do mean mini) combos. The combos are more low than hi. The exercise that makes the workout "Hi" in my opinion are the jumping jacks that occur throughout the workout. There is also a mini hitch kick segment that can be used to kick up the intensity. The cuing is just okay. At the end of the workout the mini combos are combine to make one long combo and then at the end of the combo, Janis just starts calling out moves. The cool down is very short. The other workout is called Step Ringside . This workout uses a step. Janis uses the traditional "club step". You can think of this workout as Step Kickboxing. The combos are very basic and doable. Janis does a lot of partner work in this workout but of course you ca...

Cathe's Lower Body Blast is approximately an hour in length. The DVD includes a separate Bonus leg conditioning drill segment plus 5 pre-mixes. The DVD is also well chaptered. The workout start with a warm up and goes immediately into a step cardio segment. Those two parts combine are about 9 minutes in length. Cathe then leads you through standing lower body exercises. Interspersed through the standing section are cardio burst. I like the cardio burst. They broke up the monotony of going from lower body exercise to lower body exercise. The workout also contains a short floor section. The equipment: high step with two risers, barbell, dumbbells, disc, and loop/band. In the bonus section the Turbo Tower is used. I didn't do the bonus section. I am just letting you know what equipment you need here. I really like the set. It is bright. It has mountains. It shows a beach. Great view to workout to (even if it is fake). The music is good but in some spots it is too fast for the exe...
