Guillermo Gomez Kickboxing Cardio Burn- Thoughts

Image
Kickboxing Cardio Burn is about 62 minutes in length. The warm up and cool down are about 5 minutes each. This workout is pretty good. To be honest, I was dreading it. I thought 62 minutes of triple jabs, knees smashes and vsteps , I am going to go crazy. Yes there are triple jabs and knee smashes but no vsteps . This workout has more variety than many of Guillermo's other workouts. Although it only features one combo that Guillermo builds up throughout the workout. So even though you think you are done with the combo, Guillermo keeps coming back to it - all the way until the cool down. There is a decent lower body kick section, that feature knee smash, front kick, crescent knee and then the roundhouse. There is a lot of repetition, mostly drill based. Double jacks, jump ropes. speed bags, criss -cross are some of the moves that show up between learning and doing the combos. The choreography is very basic and easy to follow. The soundtrack that Guillermo uses is full of ene...

Tracey Staehle Hi Lo Med Ball - Thougths

Image
Hi/Lo Med Ball is fun workout with a lot of personality. It features Tracey Staehle as the lead and there are two backup cast members (Jill and Barbie). The music is fairly good but this is the type of workout that just begs for vocals. Because it is instrumental, some of the moves get lost in "repetitiveness". The workout is called Hi Lo Med Ball, and it is mostly Hi Lo. There are only two Med Ball sections and one of those is an ab section done on the floor. In total there are 9 combos, plus a warm up and cool down. Combos 4 and 9 are the med ball combos. I didn't really like the med ball sections. The other combos are hi lo and feature, kickboxing, dance, athletic style moves. There's lots of jumping and plyo type moves. Tracey slows moves down to half counts and she speeds them up to double count varying the tempo throughout the workout. My biggest issue with the workout is Tracey's cuing. Sometimes I think she forgets she is leading a workout. She ...

Guillermo Gomez Kickboxing Cardio Dance - Thoughts

Image
Kickboxing Cardio Dance . This DVD contains four sections. They are: Tutorial - ~8 minutes Cardio Dance - ~ 34 minutes Martial Fusion Bootcamp - ~17 minutes Cooldown - ~ 10 minutes The dance in Cardio Dance. You have mambos and you have grapevines into a a spin. That really is all the dance there is. Guillermo does do a V step and step touches which you can make "dancey" but both of these moves are staples in his other workouts as well. As far a kickboxing - triple jabs into upper cut and a knee smash. That's it. The Kickboxing Cardio Dance does have a warm up that contains some stretching. Martial Fusion Bootcamp has a little bit more kickboxing. Jabs, Cross, Upper Cuts and Roundhouse kicks. Jump ropes, jumping jacks, squats, and push ups all show up in the Boot Camp workout as well. Both workouts are simple and very easy to follow. Not a favorite. 2 & 3/4 stars

Tracey Staehle Steady State Step - Thougths

Image
Steady State Ste p is a great step workout but the editing is bad. And unfortunately it takes away from the workout. I have had this workout for some time and did it once before maybe even twice. And then I remember, oh this is the workout that has the bad editing. The problem is the editing is worse where transition to a new move occurs. Sometime it feels like a small, maybe 2 seconds had been edited out here and there and then you are all off count. Also there are extreme close up of the cast members for long periods of time so you have no idea of what they are performing. I did manage to get through the whole workout. There were a couple of places I was marching in place. This not only had to do with the editing but Tracey (the lead) cuing as well. There were two other cast members and sometimes they would just stop in the middle of the combo because they were lost. So even if I wasn't lost, I became lost if I happen to be focus on them. Even once Tracey stops briefly ...

Guillermo Gomez Kickboxing Cardio Power - Thoughts

Image
Kickboxing Cardio Power stars Guillermo Gomez and it is 42 minutes long. Guillermo mixes the standard punches - jab, cross, upper cut, hook, with power moves such as jumping jacks and jump rope. Side steps, V step, bob & weave, knee smash, and speed bag drills round out the workout. My biggest complaint about Guillermo's kickboxing workouts are that they are light on the kicking. This workout is no different. Towards the end of he workout he does do a series of front snap kicks, but that is about it as far as kicking goes. Super easy to follow. What you do on the right, you do on the left. Expect a lot of repetition. The DVD has a tutorial section. It also has Bonus Martial Arts Drill Section that feature three separate Martial Arts Drills. A mat is required for the drills. Guillermo provides great instruction during these drills. The set is very nice. A vast improvement over his other DVDs. The music fits the workout - up tempo with lots of energy. In the main workou...

Christi Taylor Mission Possible - Thoughts

Image
Mission Possible is a cardio workout that is little bit over 50 minutes in length. It is similar in setup to Cardio Collectible but shorter. The sections are: warm up step multi-impact (hi-lo) cool down Extras are: Mission Briefing aka Introduction MoveMaster aka breakdown of the combos Bloops & Credits. The Step and Hi Lo sections are both 20 minutes each in length and the combinations are very basic. Compared to most of the Christi Taylor workouts I have done, this one is Step 101 and Hi Lo 101. Super easy to follow. Each section has four combos. Christi teaches in the layered and take it from the top approach. The thing that I did not like is that Christi did not teach the whole combo before taking it from the top. For instance, in combo two. She would teach half of the combo and then go all the way back to combo one before teaching you the second half of combo two. She did this in the third and fourth combos as well. I would have preferred her to teach all of combo two a...

Guillermo Gomez Rockin' Body - Thoughts

Image
Rockin' Body is about 65 minutes long if you do the whole workout. The menu chapters are: Warm Up - ~ 8 minutes Rockin Body Cardio - ~37 minutes Bonus Toning Abs - ~10 minutes Yoga Stretch & Relaxation - ~10 minutes The Rockin Body Cardio section contains 5 sets of moves strung together for a mini combo. The moves are taught in the layer approach with the right and then left lead. I was kind of annoyed with the combo because none of the moves featured any kicking at all. The only thing done with the legs was a knee smash - I believe that occurred in the 4th set of moves. At the very end of the workout, Guillermo puts in a set of drill based front kicks. The moves used in the combo are very basic. There are lots of reps. Starting with set of 8, then Guillermo cuts it in half and does sets of 4, then he cuts it it half again with sets of 2. It is not a bad workouts, there just isn't a lot of variety and not a lot of thinking to do. The bonus toning and abs section is do...

Christi Taylor Cardio Collectibles

Image
Cardio Collectibles is about a 70 minute plus workout. It features a warm up and cool down and two Cardio sections. During the warm up, you have the option to use or not use a step. Christi uses a step, the other two cast members do not. The warm is about 7 minutes long. Next comes the cardio sections. The first section is step and it is about 30 minutes long. During the step combination Christi teaches 4 combos. She layers the combos on top of one another. After teaching combo 1, she moves on to combo 2. Before going on to combo 3, she takes it from the top with combo 1. Christi starts each combo by teaching you the basic moves but adds complexity as she moves along. Unlike her other workouts that I have done, there is not a group sticking with doing modification moves. However, for the most part the combos were easy to pick up. The next cardio section is High-Low. It is also about 30 minutes. This section does not use a step and it also contains 4 combos. It is taught ...

Guillermo Gomez Slammin' Body - Thoughts

Image
Slammin' Bod y is a 42 minute kickboxing workout. Although,I will say. there was a lot more boxing than kicking. The workout is divided into three sections. Interval Kickboxing - 24 minutes Cardio Bonus - 10 minutes Stretch & Relax - 8 minutes My favorite part was the Interval Kickboxing section. This segment featured 8 combos. Within each combo, you execute the moves on first the right and then left side. You first start off moving through the combo slowing for four reps. Guillermo then picks up the pace for a set of eight reps. Each combo routine is set up this way. The combos are fairly basic. I didn't find any too hard to grasp. The cardio bonus segments is really just 3 mini combos taught as one long combo. It was okay. The punches and kicks were just as basic or even more basic than the Interval Kickboxing section. Double jab to the front, step knee smash, three jabs into upper cut, V step transition are the moves used in this section. Stretch and Relax is a n...
